  Description

  Situated on a slight rise, on slight E-facing slope, in gently undulating pasture. Raised oval area (dims. c. 36m NE-SW; c. 32m NW-SE) enclosed by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 3.2m; int. H 0.4m) with a fosse (Wth 4m) and an external bank of earth and stone (Wth 2.2m; int. H 0.6m). Original entrance is not recognisable. There are small breaks through the bank at N, SE, SSE and W caused by animal traffic. Dense overgrowth obscures most the rath. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 22 April 2013

• SL005-042001 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  Situated on a slight rise in gently undulating pasture. Raised circular area (diam. 25m) defined by a bank of rubble limestone (Wth 4.1m; int. H 0.4m). No fosse is visible at ground level. The site has been divided by a NE-SW orientated field boundary that crosses the bank at NE and at SSW. The original entrance is not recognisable. The interior of the site is level, densely overgrown across the NW two-thirds and heavily trampled by livestock across the SE one-third.   Description

  At Derry cashel (SL005-042001-). Not indicated on any edition of the OS 6-inch map. An earlier fieldworker (1991) recorded that a local landowner stated that a souterrain had been opened at this site some time in the 1980s. No trace or tradition of a souterrain is now visible.   Situated on a slight SE-facing slope in gently undulating pasture. Raised circular area (diam. 35m) enclosed by a bank of rubble limestone (Wth 4.3m; int. H 0.4m). No fosse visible.   Description

• SL005-044 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  Situated on a slight SE-facing slope in gently undulating pasture. Circular area (diam. 17.5m) enclosed by a wall of rubble limestone (Wth 2.1m; H 1.4m). There is no fosse visible at ground level. The wall is best preserved SE-W where both the internal and external facing of larger stones are intact with a fill of small rubble between. From W-NNE the external side of the wall has collapsed outward. Both faces of the wall have collapsed NNE-SE leaving a stone bank (Wth 3.5m; H 1m) with the basal facing stones intact on the external side. The position of the original entrance is not recognisable. • SL005-045 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  Situated on a slight NE-facing slope in gently undulating pasture. Slightly raised circular area (diam. 22m) enclosed by a bank of rubble limestone (Wth 4.9m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.45m). No fosse visible. Original entrance not recognisable. An annex (SL005-045001-) is co-joined to the NNE side of the cashel. consisting of a roughly wedge shaped area (dims. 9m NW-SE; 5m NE-SW). The S side of the annex (dims. 13m NW-SE; 5m NE-SW) is defined by the bank of the cashel while it two independent stretches of rubble limestone bank (Wth 1.7m; H 0.3m), that link to the external face of the cashel bank at NW and at NE, enclose the E and W sides. The N side is defined by an earth and stone scarped edge (ext. H 0.6m). The W two-thirds of the annex are raised and level. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F.
