  In level improved pasture with moderate to good views in all directions. Not shown on any edition of the OS 6-inch map. Visible on an aerial photograph (G.S.I. • TS058-080 Moated site
  Description

  In improved pasture, on the edge of a precipice with a small valley to the E, located within the NW angle of a large enclosure (TS058-081----), both being visible on an aerial photograph (ASIAP(303) 3-4, 13.09.2002). An enclosure (TS058-080001-) immediately N of the moated site shares the intervening fosse. A rectangular area (dims. 32m E-W; 26m N-S) defined by the remains of a low earthen bank (overall Wth 6.75m; Wth at top 2.8m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.45m) to N (L 26m) and S (L 26m) which has been reduced to scarp (Wth 2.7m; H 0.6m) to the E (L 26m) and W (L 22m). A shallow fosse is visible to W (overall Wth 6.1m; basal Wth 2.75m; D 0.1m) and N (overall Wth 5.9m; basal Wth 2.2m; D 0.2m). The fosse along the N side continues NE of the monument, down the precipice slope and appears to truncate the enclosing elements of the large enclosure. The interior slopes down gently to the E. Immediately E of the moated side, the NE angle of the large enclosure appears to be internally divided to create a D-shaped area (dims. 26m N-S; 23.5m E-W) defined by the curvilinear scarp (Wth 3.5m; H 0.75m) of the large enclosure from N-E-SE and by a levelled linear scarp (long axis E-W) (L 8m) and fosse (Wth 4.75m; D 0.18m) to S. • TS058-080001 Enclosure
  Description

  In improved pasture, on the edge of a precipice with a small valley to the E. This sub-rectangular enclosure appears to overlie the N enclosing elements of a large enclosure (TS058-081---) and may be contemporary with a moated site (TS058-080----) which is located immediately to the S and with which it shares the intervening fosse, which continues eastward down the precipice slope and appears to truncate the enclosing elements of the large enclosure. The enclosure (dims. 22m E-W; 17m N-S) is defined by the remains of a low scarp (Wth 2.2m; H 0.4m) to S and W; a barely traceable scarp (Wth 1.35m; H 0.2m) to N; a natural linear scarp to E and by a conjoined fosse (overall Wth 5.9m; basal Wth 2.2m; D 0.2m) to S and the shallow remains of a fosse (overall Wth 4.1m; basal Wth 2m; D 0.05m) to W and N. There are the possible remains of an outer bank (overall Wth 5.3m; Wth at top 1.5m; int. H 0.05m; ext. H 0.4m) to W and N. The interior slopes to the E. • TS058-081 Enclosure
  Description

  In improved pasture, utilising a natural precipice with overlooks a small valley to the E. The natural slope of the precipice continues to run southward beyond the southern limit of the monument. A moated site is located within the NW angle (TS058-080----) and an enclosure (TS058-080001-) at the N end appears to be built over the line of the N enclosing elements. This large oval enclosure (overall diam. 103m N-S; 55.5m E-W; narrowing to 14m E-W in the S) is visible on an aerial photograph (ASIAP(303) 3-4, 13.09.2002) and is clearly defined from N-E-SE by a curvilinear scarp (Wth 3.5m; H 0.75m); curvilinear berm (Wth 5.25m; H 0.6m) and natural counter scarp (Wth 13m; H 3.2m) which utilises the natural precipice slope; in the S it is defined by a low scarp (Wth 2m; H 0.15m) and in the W by the remains of a levelled bank (overall Wth 5.75m; basal Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.05m). Apart from the moated site, the interior has several sub-divisions. In the NE angle, immediately E of the moated site, there is a D-shaped area (dims. 26m N-S; 23.5m E-W) which is divided from the rest of the interior to the S by a levelled linear scarp (long axis E-W) (L 8m) and fosse (Wth 4.75m; D 0.18m). The main portion of the interior is divided into two areas. That immediately S of the moated site consists of a large rectangular area (dims. 57m N-S; 44m E-W) defined by a steep scarp (Wth 5.5m; H 1.7m) to the E and low scarp (Wth 2m; H 0.15m) to the S and W. The interior slopes eastward and is slightly raised in the N sector; a field boundary, running ENE-WSW, truncates the interior off-centre to S. Another rectangular area (dims. 20m N-S; 14m E-W) adjoins to the S and is defined by levelled scarp (Wth 1.75m; H 0.2m) to N, its interior has a gentle S-facing slope.   Description

  In pasture, on a general SW-facing slope. Oval area (dims 19m N-S; 16m E-W) defined by scarp (Wth 3.8m; H 1.25m). Possible berm (Wth 2.75m) NE-SW at base of scarp. Intervening fosse (Wth 9.35m; D 2.25m). Outer bank (Wth 7.6m; int. H 2.25m; ext. H 0.9m) NE-SE and SW-WNW is eroded by livestock WSW-WNW. Field boundary (long axis ENE-WSW) truncates fosse across NNW-sector. Interior is grass covered and slightly uneven. • TS066-013 Castle - ringwork
  Description

  In improved pasture, on a gentle SE-facing slope. Sub-rectangular area (dims 24m N-S; 25m E-W) defined by scarp (Wth 2.85-4.2m; H 1.4-2.75m) and external fosse (Wth 5.85-9.25m; D 0.25-1.6m). The scarp is best preserved to S, W and N-sides, being llower along the E-side. An entrance (Wth 6m) in the E-ESE appears to have been widened. The fosse is best preserved on S, W and N-sides and is narrowest and shallowest on the E side. There are ponds of water (diam. c. 10m) at SE and SW angles of the fosse. Interior has a gentle E-facing slope and has remains of cultivation furrows (long axis ESE-WNW). Large hole (dims. 1.5m NE-SW; 1.2m NW-SE) at S may be a collapsed animal burrow.   Description

  In pasture, on a S-facing slope where there are numerous dry, linear drainage channels. Identified during field survey by Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly (17 February 2009). A circular area (dims. 5m N-S; 4.8m E-W) defined by a fosse (Wth 1.2-1.95m; D 0.1-0.11m) and the remains of a possible bank (Wth 2.1-2.35m; int. H 0.1-0.18m; ext. H 0.1-0.11m) in the SE quadrant. The interior has been raised on the S side to create a level platform within. A drainage channel running N-S abuts the fosse at the W. • TS066-192 Enclosure
  Description

  In pasture, on a S-facing slope. Identified during field survey by Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly (17 February 2009). A conjoined ditch barrow and ring-barrow (TS066-193001- and TS066-193002-) are located c. 25m to the NE. A sub-oval area (dims. 20m NW-SE; 15m NE-SW) defined by scarp (Wth 0.9m; H 0.2m) and fosse (overall Wth 2.2m; basal Wth 0.75m; D 0.13m) which is best defined SE-W-NW where it has been incorporated into shallow drainage channels. The scarp (Wth 1.1m; H 0.05m) is very gradual from NW-N-E. A linear drainage channel (long axis N-S; L 15m; Wth 1.25m; D 0.1-0.18m) transects the monument across the E sector. An enclosure (TS066-192----) is located c. 25m to the SW. A circular area (dims. 5.25m N-S; 5.1m E-W) defined by a fosse (overall Wth 1.75m; basal Wth 0.4m; D 0.05m).   Description

  In pasture, on a S-facing slope, abutting a ditch barrow (TS066-193001-) to the E. Identified during field survey by Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly (17 February 2009). An enclosure (TS066-192----) is located c. 23m to the SW. A D-shaped area (dims. 5.6m N-S; 3.25m E-W) defined by a well-preserved fosse (overall Wth 2.05m; basal Wth 0.4m; D 0.2m) and the remains of a possible outer bank visible in the SE and NW quadrants. The monument is transected by a linear feature aligned N-S (Wth 1m; H 0.06m), which is possibly up-cast from a shallow drain across the W sector. A circular area (dims. 5.9m N-S; 5.7m E-W) defined by a fosse (overall Wth 3.1m; basal Wth 0.85m; D 0.15m) and outer bank (Wth 3.1m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.05m) N-E-WSW. • TS066-195 Barrow - ring-barrow
  Description

  In rough wet pasture, on a natural ridge/shelf, the land slopes steeply to the S c. 18m to the S of monument where there is a flood plain. Identified during field survey by Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly (17 February 2009). A circular area (dims. 5m N-S; 4.75m E-W) defined by a fosse (Wth 1.6-1.9m; D 0.2-0.3m) and outer bank (Wth 3.35m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.17m) E-S. There are irises in the fosse all around with rushes and briars at the E. A slight depression (Wth 1.3m) in the outer area at ENE may be an entrance. The interior is grass covered with frequent irises and the barrow is slightly poached by livestock. There is a field boundary 6m to the S and a linear land drain runs N-S 4.5m to the W and another runs NW-SE to the E. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of revised upload: 9 September 2014
