Description
In level pasture, land gently undulating to N. Circular area (dims. c. 21m N-S; c. 23m E-W) defined by low earthen bank (Wth 2.25m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.0m) W-N-E and low scarp (Wth 1.5m; H 1.0m) E-S-W. External fosse (Wth 3.75m; D 0.3m) covered by briars in places. Possible traces of outer bank SE-S-SW. Description
In pasture on a N-facing slope. Circular area (dims. c. 41m N-S; c. 40m E-W) defined by inner scarp (H 0.4m), shallow intervening fosse (Wth 5.5m; Dth 0.4m), outer bank (Wth c. 4m; int. H. 0.5m; ext. H 0.95m) and external fosse (Wth c. 4.7m; D c. 0.35m). Inner scarp and outer bank are uneven in height due to erosion and survive best around base of mature trees. Curvilinear feature adjoins monument to S and is defined by bank (Wth 3m; H c. 0.25m) SE-W-NW extending from SW bank of ringfort. This is a possible annexe. In pasture on a gentle N-facing slope. Circular enclosure (dims. c. 23m N-S; c. 22m E-W) defined by remnants of inner earthen bank (Wth c. 3m; int. H c. 0.6m; ext. H c. 0.5m) NE-E-S-SW. Breach (Wth 3.8m) at E and S. Intervening fosse (Wth 4.5m; basal Wth 1.75; Dth 0.5m). Outer bank (Wth c. 2.78m; int. H 1.25m; ext. H 0.75m) NE-E-S-NW. Traces of outer fosse (Wth 3.58m; basal Wth1.8m; D 0.1m) NE-E-S-SW. Interior slopes downwards to N, mature trees within, on banks and in fosses. Enclosure truncated in N-sector due to modern dwelling and garden, c. 20 years old. Enclosed to E and S by field boundary flanked by public road. Gortavoher Wood on rising ground to S.
