• TN020-014 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a N-facing slope of rising ground in an upland area with a ringfort (TN020-013) to the N. The site was covered in dense vegetation at time of visit making examination impossible. It was previously described as a circular area (diam. 20m approx.) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 1.5m; int. H 0.5m) with a deep external fosse (D 2m) (OPW Files). A deep depression (diam. 8m; D 2m) in the E sector is due to modern quarrying. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. • TN020-015 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a NE-facing slope of rising ground in an upland area. A circular area (diam. 30m approx.) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 1.5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.7m) with external fosse (Wth 3m; ext. D 0.7m) and possible traces of a slight outer bank visible in places. Dense vegetation makes detailed examination of the site impossible. A deep sunken laneway to an old farmhouse intersects the site at E on a N-S axis. No entrance feature visible. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. • TN020-016 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a NE-facing slope of rising ground in an upland area. A circular raised area (diam. 27m N-S) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 3.5m max.; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 2.5m max.) reduced to a scarp at NE and a shallow fosse (Wth. 3.5m) with possible traces of an outer bank. Causewayed entrance (Wth 3m) at ESE. The fosse is destroyed at S by a modern road which intersects the site on an E-W axis. A low irregular-shaped earthen platform of unknown antiquity (dims. 9m NE-SW x 6.5m NW-SE; H 0.3m) is located to the NNE of the site and may have been a house platform.
