• TS082-070 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On top of broad hill in undulating terrain, in meadow. Ballindoney tower house (TS082-059----) is visible on a hill to the N and a ringfort (TS082-075----) is visible c. 250m to the SE. Monument depicted as circular enclosure (overall diam. c. 24m) on the 1st (1850) ed. 6-inch OS map and as a raised circular area (diam. c. 32m N-S; c. 30m E-W) on the 1904-05 ed. It has been levelled, however, the W half (diam. c. 29m E-W) is defined by a low, broad raised curve and the E half is outlined by a townland boundary which kinked around to respect this side of the monument. • TS082-071 Enclosure
  Description

  In very undulatiang terrain sloping to the ESE, in meadow. Ballindoney tower house visible 2km to the NE. Identified as circular enclosure on an aerial photograph (CUCAP July 70 BDR 82), the fosse is apparent as a cropmark. The monument consists of a large raised area (diam. 60m NE-SW) defined by scarp (H 0.69-0.77m) which appears to have been dug into around the edge in the NE, SE and SW quadrants, forming circular depressions. The edge of the NW quadrant is unclear, the entire edge has been removed. The outer fosse is only evident in the SW quadrant (WTh 5m; D 0.32m over 5m). The interior slopes gently to the NE. On the aerial photograph there is a possible break in fosse in the E quadrant which may indicate the position of the entrance. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 12 February 2014

• TS082-072 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In very undulating terrain, sloping to the SSE, in meadow. Raised circular area (diam. 25.4m N-S; 27.6m E-W) defined by scarp (H 0.66m over 5.5m) and wide, flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 3.9m; D 0.67 over 7m). Interior slightly concave. Scarp and fosse are less pronounced in the N quadrant, may have been filled in or be remains of a causeway. The scarp has been dug into along its edge in the SW quadrant and has eroded into the fosse in the W sector. The outline of the fosse shows up clearly on an aerial photograph (ASIAP (30) 29-30). The monument appears to be denuded ringfort which has been ploughed over. On the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map a field boundary is depicted bisecting the monument, running NW-SE. • TS082-073 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In gently undulating terrain, in lush pasture. Land sloping to S and E. Circular raised area (diam. 30m N-S; 26.7m E-W) defined by scarp (H 0.76m over 3m) and wide, U-shaped fosse (Wth 5.2m; D 0.36m). There has been some disturbance in the NE quadrant where the interior has been pushed into the fosse. This enclosure shows up clearly on aerial photograph (CUCAP July 1970 BDR 83). It is likely that the monument was ploughed over sometime in the past resulting in its present flattened profile. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 12 February 2014
