• TS086-028 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On an E-facing slope in undulating terrain with woodland called 'Flemingstown Wood' located c. 100m to the S and narrow bands of woodland c. 400m to N and W. The monument is depicted as circular enclosure with trees in the interior on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map and though hachured on the 2nd (1907) ed. it is also shown enclosed by a field bank with trees depicted in interior. A circular area (diam. 28.7m N-S; 32.4m E-W) enclosed by an inner bank (Wth 2m crest, 4.4m base; int. H 0.36m; ext. H 0.9m); fosse (Wth 2.3m; D 0.6m) and outer bank (Wth 2.9m crest, 6.2m base; ext. H 0.86m). A length of old field bank runs parallel to the possible ringfort in the N quadrant. In the NW quadrant there is a slight hint of an outer fosse (Wth 1.7m; D 0.3m). In the E and S quadrants the outer bank and area immediately outside it have been quarried out. The interior slopes to the E with the natural slope. There is no obvious entrance feature, though it may have been removed by quarrying activity. There is a slight roughly circular rise (diam. c. 6m) in the centre of the monument. Some large trees in interior have been cut, three mature oak trees survive. The monument may have been a tree-ring or ringfort reused as such. • TS086-029 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a NE-facing slope in undulating pastureland with woodland 'Flemingstown Wood' c. 300m to S and narrow bands of woodland 500-600m to N and W. Depicted as circular enclosure with trees in interior on 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map and though hachured on 2nd (1907) ed. it is enclosed by a field bank with trees depicted in interior. Oval area (diam. 28m N-S; 25.6m E-W) enclosed by scarp (H 0.5m); wide, flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 2.1m; D 0.69m); outer earthen bank with some stones visible (Wth 1.5m crest, 3.9m base; ext. H 0.63m) and slight outer fosse (W 1.4m; D 0.28m). The bank in the S quadrant is quite straight. There is a gap in the W quadrant (Wth 2m). In the NW quadrant the bank is denuded by cattle. A field bank runs into the outer bank of the monument in the N and S quadrants. There are sycamore trees growing on the bank and ash in the centre. • TS086-044 Enclosure
  Description

  On a gradual N-facing slope, off the flat crest of a ridge, in undulating terrain under tillage. Monument identified as large, possibly oval enclosure on aerial photographs (ASIAP (29) 4-6, 3-8-96). Only the S side of this possible enclosure is defined. Immediately N of the cropmark the ground level drops to the N, gradual natural fall, then the ground levels out before falling steeply to N at the N field boundary. There is no visible trace of the monument above ground. It is likely that if this was an enclosure the N edge was at the N field boundary. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 19 November 2013

• TS087-017 Enclosure
  Description

  In very undulating terrain, ground sloping gradually to the NE, a stream, c. 100m to the NE, flows roughly E-W. There are a lot of natural hillocks in the vicinity.
