  On flat grassland in upland area with good views in all directions. Not visible at ground level. An oval enclosure (diam. c. 45m NW-SE; c. 36m NE-SW) depicted on the 1st (1840) ed.   On a SE-facing slope of rising grassland in upland area with good views in all directions. Castle is indicated as site of Williamstown Castle on both the 1st (1840) and subsequent 1903 ed. • TS049-044 Fish-pond
  Description

  On a gentle SE-facing slope on poorly drained grassland in upland area with good views in all directions. Nearby moated site (TS049-045----) 150m to E and enclosure (TS049-041----) 250m to W. Fish-pond consists of a large waterlogged circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 40m N-S; 50m E-W) which even in the summer time after a dry-spell was still very wet. No enclosing feature visible. Depicted as a circular enclosure and marked on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map as an 'Old Fish Pond', not indicated on the 1903 edition. Remains of enclosure can be seen on the other side of the field boundary to the S, this field boundary bisects the pond on a N-S axis. Stream appears to have fed the fish-pond from the W side running E-W. Fish-pond associated with nearby moated site (TS049-045----) to E. Field boundaries have changed just slightly since first ed. OS 6-inch map, fish-pond may have been levelled when these alterations took place. No evidence of fish-pond in field to NW of junction of field boundaries. At the junction of two field boundaries evidence for fish-pond in SW and SE quadrants, no evidence in NW and NE quadrants. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

• TS049-045 Moated site
  Description

  On flat elevated reclaimed grassland in upland area with good views in all directions. Nearby stream to W with fish-pond (TS049-044----) and enclosure (TS049-041----) to 150m and 400m to the W respectively. All that is visible of the moated site are a series of low undulating earthworks of a much degraded D-shaped enclosure (approx. dims. 40m N-S x 35m E-W) defined by a filled in moat now visible as a cropmark (Wth 3m; ext. D 0.2m). Depicted on the 1st (1840) OS 6-inch map as a square-shaped area with possible building (TS049-045001-) in the centre of the moated site and with field boundaries intersecting the at N and S. These field boundaries were removed by the 1903 ed. OS 6-inch map. The moated site may have been levelled between 1840 and 1905 when the field boundaries were being removed. The monument shows up on an aerial photograph (ASIAP (26)14-18) as a roughly D-shaped cropmark of a levelled moated site. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of revised upload: 27 May 2015

  Description

  On flat elevated reclaimed grassland in upland area with good views in all directions. Nearby stream to W with fish-pond (TS049-044----) and enclosure (TS049-041----) to 150m and 400m to the W respectively. This building (dims. c. 12m E-W; c. 7m N-S) is centrally placed within a possible moated site (TS049-045----) which survives as a much degraded D-shaped enclosure. • TS049-046 Enclosure
  Description

  On a SE-facing slope of rising ground in grassland in upland area with good views in all directions. Located near edge of river ravine located to the NE of the enclosure with nearby ringforts (TS049-047---- and TS049-048----) 380m and 530m to SE respectively. Only the N half of the enclosure survives and it is covered in dense vegetation making detailed examination impossible. The S half of the enclosure was located in grassland but no remains survive, field boundary which originally bisected the monument on an E-W axis now forms the S boundary of the enclosure. Depicted as a semi-circular-shaped enclosure on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map. Monument consist of a circular area (approx. diam 12m N-S; 20m E-W) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (top Wth 2.5m ; base Wth 5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1-1.5m) and outer fosse (base Wth 2m; top Wth 4m ; ext. D 0.5m), no entrance feature visible, interior follows slope of terrain from W to E where it falls off into the river valley to E.
