• TN047-053 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a NW-facing slope in undulating terrain, in pasture. A roughly circular area (diam. 36.5m N-S) enclosed by a substantial earth and stone bank (Wth 4.5m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 2.45m), a wide, flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 3.5m; D 1.1m) and a counterscarp which has been augmented by a field bank (Wth 1.7m; ext. H 0.35m). There is a gap (Wth c. 2m) in the SW quadrant with displaced stone collapsing from the bank on the S side and stone protruding from the base of the bank on the W side. Also at SW there is stone facing on the inner face of the counterscarp bank. A limekiln is built into the counterscarp at N and a large area of the interior has been quarried into as indicated on latest ed. (1952-3) OS 6-inch map. • TN047-054 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a gentle NE-facing slope in undulating pastureland with a nearby ringfort (TN047-053) to the N. No diameters were obtainable due to the overgrown nature of the site. Depicted as an oval enclosure on the latest ed. (1952-3) OS 6-inch map the site is enclosed by a steep bank (Wth 2.1m; int. H 1.19m; ext. H 2m), a deep flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 3m; D 1.07m) and a counterscarp (Wth 1.6m; ext. H 0.3m). There is a possible entrance (Wth c. 1.6m) in the NW quadrant. Some quarrying has taken place in the fosse at W. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. • TN047-055 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on a SE-facing slope in undulating terrain in pasture. A roughly circular area (diam. 34.5m E-W; N-S) enclosed by a clay and gravel bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.63m; ext. H 1.22m), a fosse (Wth 2.7m; D 0.63m) and an outer bank (Wth 1.3m; ext. H 0.5m). A gap has been broken through the bank in the SE quadrant. The interior slopes slightly to the SE and was nettle-filled at the time of inspection. Some large stones protrude from the external face of the inner bank which is quite steep in profile. A road extending NE-SW along the NW side of the site has damaged the bank. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.
