• TS046-045 Enclosure
  Description

  On flat pasture with good views in all directions, with nearby River Suir to the NW. A sketch plan and section of the monument from the 1950s depicts a roughly oval-shaped monument, defined by scarp (OPW files). An upstanding D-shaped monument is visible on an aerial photograph (GSI S.585/4 8.4.1974). According to the current landowner this monument was levelled in the 1980s. On an aerial photograph taken in 1989 it is only visible as a cropmark (GB89.AB.26 16 July 1989). It is barely visible as a cropmark of a roughly circular enclosure (approx. diam. 44m) at ground level. An enclosure (TS046-067----) is located c. 200m to the SW. • TS046-067 Enclosure
  Description

  In low-lying terrain, on the flood plain of the River Suir which is located c. 20m to the NW. In a reclaimed field under pasture. An aerial photograph (GB89.AB.26) shows the cropmark of an incomplete curvilinear enclosure defined by a fosse. An enclosure (TS046-045----) is located c. 200m to the NE. This roughly D-shaped enclosure (dims. 30m N-S; 40m E-W) is defined by a natural ridge (H 0.55m; Wth 10m) running NE-SW along the straight NW side and elsewhere by a low wide bank (W quadrant int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.2m; Wth 8m; SE quadrant int. H 0.12m; ext. H 0.55m; Wth at crest 3.2m; overall Wth 14m) which appears to have been levelled. The bank is quite subtle and difficult to see in places.   Description

  On flat elevated pasture with good views in all directions. There is a large hollow depression of natural appearance in the corner of the field which might be what is showing up on an aerial photograph as an enclosure (CUCAP AYP 81, 11 July 1969). • TS047-083 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On slightly elevated pasture with good views in all directions. The monument consists of a D-shaped area (int. diam. 46m NW-SE; 45m E-W; overall diam. 62m NE-SW) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (base Wth 4m; top Wth 1.5m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.2m), external fosse (top Wth 4.5m; base Wth 3.9m; ext. D 0.5m) and outer bank (top Wth 0.7m; base Wth 1m; ext. H 0.3m) with possible causewayed entrance gap (Wth 5m) at NE. There are modern cattle gaps at NW and SE, the outer bank appears to be a later boundary planted with hawthorns as a way of enclosing the ringfort from the rest of the field. The straight side of the D-shaped enclosure at SW measures 43m long. There is a small quarry (dims. 7m NE-SW x 2m N-S; D 0.5m) in the N quadrant of the interior. • TS047-120 Enclosure
  Description

  On a flat break of a very gradual NW-facing slope. The slope continues towards the River Suir which flows c. 270m to the NW. The land has been reclaimed and is incorporated in a gallops, the monument being located in the W corner of the gallops. An aerial photograph (GB90.CI. 14, 16 July 1989) shows the cropmark of part of a possible curvilinear enclosure defined by a fosse.   Description

  In tillage. A sub-square enclosure (dims. c. 32m NE-SW and NW-SE) defined by a fosse, visible as a cropmark on satellite imagery (2021 Maxar Technologies, viewed May 2021), identified and reported by Jean-Charles Caillère. The enclosure has straight sides with rounded corners. A small field which is indicated on the 1st (1840-41) ed. OS 6-inch map but has since been levelled, is visible overlying the NE sector of the enclosure.   Description

  In ploughed field atop low glacial hillock on N-facing slope in undulating countryside with good views in all directions. Circular enclosure visible on aerial photograph (GSI 8.4.1974, S. 584/3) and indicated on 2nd (1953-54) ed. OS 6-inch map (map dims. c. 32m N-S; c. 28m E-W) where it appears as a raised earthwork. A sketch plan and profile drawn in the 1950s show an oval area enclosed by a bank (overall dims. 26m N-S; 18m E-W) (OS Field Memorandums). No visible trace above ground.   Description

  Five-arched road bridge over River Suir, built c. 1800, of roughly coursed limestone construction. Four round arches with cut limestone voussoirs and fifth flat arch is concrete rebuild. Dressed limestone coping to parapets and with V-cutwaters to upstream elevation only.
