• TS076-052 Moated site
  Description

  On floor of small river valley, in low-lying pasture. Well-preserved moated site (max. dims. (from ext.) 51m NW-SE; 63m NE-SW) defined by inner bank (Wth 2.7-1.9m crest, 4.1m base; int. H 0.5-0.54m; H above fosse (1.32-1.57m); wide, flat-bottomed, water-logged fosse (Wth 4-3.3m) and outer bank (Wth 2.6m crest, 5.2m base; H above fosse 0.88-1.57m; ext. H 0.1-0.2m), measurements for SW and NE sides respectively. No clearly defined entrance feature. Interior heavily overgrown with scrub and is quite waterlogged and badly poached. Inner bank is well preserved while the outer bank is largely reduced to scarp. Leat indicated on 1st (1840) and 2nd (1901-05) ed. OS 6-inch map at S angle, the closest point to the river that flows NE-SW to SE of moated site. This has been partially piped but is still visible as a slight depression (Wth 2.4m; L c. 27m). • TS076-053 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On E-facing slope in undulating terrain, under pasture, just below crest of hill. Bivallate ringfort (int. diam. 36m N-S; 33.5m E-W) enclosed by bank (Wth 3.8m crest, 7.6m base; H above int. 0.48m; H above fosse 1.21m); wide, flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 3.9m) and substantial outer bank (Wth 3.8m crest, 6.8m base; H above fosse 2.18m; H above ext. 1.4m); outer fosse visible from SW-NE (Wth 3.6m; D above outer bank 1.45m; D above ext. 1.1m). Interior slopes to ESE. Interior grass covered, however fosse and outer bank overgrown with scrub and brambles. Inner bank slopes gently to interior. Entrance (Wth 3.4m) in E quadrant appears to have been widened as the outer bank is truncated on either side. Possible causeway although cattle trampling may have created a causeway. Field boundary depicted running NW-SE along E side of ringfort has been removed, as has townland boundary to S. A post and wire fence replaces the later and the field S of this has recently been reseeded with grass. In the SW sector the outer bank is 2.21m H above exterior with slight dip at base suggestive of an external fosse. This dip is exaggerated towards the W quadrant where the external ground level rises. External fosse continues from SW-W-N-NE. Cattle gap in W quadrant. • TS076-053001 Bullaun stone
  Description

  Possible bullaun located 11.4m E of ringfort (TS076-053----). One large circular depression (dims. 0.43m x 0.45m; D 0.3m) in earthfast limestone boulder (max. dims. 0.95m x 1.3m; D 0.46m). No other boulders or outcrop apparent in field. Along W side of boulder there are three curving depressions which appear to be solution holes that have fractured from the rock, with another shallow circular solution hole to SE.   Description

  A number of small fields/paddocks within a larger roughly L-shaped curvilinear enclosure (dims. at N c. 80m NE-SW x c. 20m NW-SE, with the W portion (L c. 100m tapering to the S), defined by fosses which are visible as cropmarks on satellite imagery (Apple Maps), identified and reported by Jean-Charles Caillère. A moated site (TS076-052----) lies c. 70m to the N and another smaller field system (TS076-075----), also visible as a cropmark, lies c. 50m to the SW.   Description

  A number of small fields/paddocks within a curvilinear enclosure (max. L c. 0.5m; max. A moated site (TS076-052----) lies c. 170m to the NE and another larger field system (TS076-075----), also visible as a cropmark, lies c. 50m to the NE.
