  Description

  Situated on a gentle W-facing slope in undulating pasture. A raised circular area (diam. 26m) sloping to the SW, enclosed by a broad, partially levelled bank (Wth 7m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.8m) and a shallow, external fosse (Wth 6m; D 0.26m). A field boundary curves to respect the N edge of the site. There are small areas of quarrying in the S and SE sections of the bank and dumping in the fosse at N. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. • TN021-050 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a NW-facing slope in pasture. A circular area (diam. 36.5m N-S; 35.8m E-W) sloping gently to the N, defined by a denuded earth and stone bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.52m; ext. H 2.09m), a wide, deep fosse (Wth 7m; D 2.3m) and an outer bank (Wth 3.85m). A possible, much denuded, third bank is visible in the NW quadrant (Wth 4m; int. H 1.18m; ext. H 0.4m). No visible entrance feature. The outer (second) bank has been broken through at E allowing silage to overspill into the fosse from an adjacent silage pit.   Description

  Situated on a SE-facing slope in undulating pastureland. A circular area (diam. 49.2m N-S; 46.8m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 4.2m; int. H 0.46m; max. ext. H 2.5m) and a shallow fosse (Wth 3.9m; D 0.2m). The bank has stone revetment on the external face at N and there is a gap broken through the bank at SSW. • TN021-068 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a break in a W-facing slope in pastureland. Indicated on the 1st (1843) ed. OS 6-inch map as an irregular-shaped enclosure, with a stream forming the S side. A rectangular enclosure (dims. c. 60m NW-SE; c. 45m NE-SW), defined by a low, narrow bank (Wth 1.2m; ext. H 0.72m) which only survives in the W half and is incorporated in a hedgerow. A trench is cut immediately inside portion of the surviving bank and is partly revetted with stone. This site is severely damaged and has been used as a refuse dump in the past and is currently the burial ground for an adjacent dog pound. The interior ground level has risen by c. 1.5m as a result of dumping. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.   Description

  File refers to monument AR-28 in Site Assessment reports (p. 102-113) for the Nenagh By-pass in 1994 (Unpublished Report 1997), although classified as an excavated feature it was referred to in the file as a possible ring-barrow. • TN021-101 Habitation site
  Description

  Situated on the Nenagh Bypass route. Site uncovered during the monitoring/testing in advance of Nenagh Bypass. A roughly circular structure (dims. c.10.5m N-S x 12m) consisting of a series of post- and stake-holes which did not form a clearly identifiable structure and a number of associated pits (O'Brien 2000, 196). The largest pit (dims. 1.5m x 2m; D 0.46m) lay immediately N of the post-holes and was filled with charcoal- and burnt clay-flecked soil (ibid.). Finds included sherds of prehistoric pottery, charcoal and chert flakes (ibdi.). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
