Description
Situated on a W-facing slope just off the summit of a gently sloping hill. A poorly preserved site which has been levelled except for the S portion where the bank has been incorporated into a hedgerow. Originally the site consisted of a raised circular area (diam. 32.5m N-S; 35.5m E-W) enclosed by a bank, which has been reduced to a scarp, (H 0.36m) and an external fosse (Wth 4.6m). No other features visible. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
- TN046-009 Enclosure
Description
Situated on an E-facing slope in pastureland. A roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 20.5m N-S; 23m E-W) defined by a stony, earthen bank (Wth 1.5-2.2m; int. H 0.34m; ext. H 0.9). The interior slopes gently to the E. A large quarry at S cuts through the inner bank and part of the interior and there has been slight quarrying at N. A field wall abuts the site at SE and part of a stone wall almost abuts the NW quadrant. A field boundary respects the W section of the site. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002).
