  Description

  Situated just below the summit of a low hill on a NW-facing slope. A raised square-shaped area (dims. 26m E-W) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 1.8m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 1.5m) and wide outer fosse (Wth 3m; D 0.2-0.8m) with possible causewayed entrance (Wth 3m) at W. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). • TN042-074 Enclosure - large enclosure
  Description

  The Drish River flows c. 100m to the N, in tillage. A large oval enclosure (overall dims. c. 90m N-S; c. 75m E-W), defined by a fosse which is visible as a cropmark on satellite imagery (Bing), identified and reported by Jean-Charles Caillère. Field boundaries immediately N and W of the enclosure were levelled between June 2018 and April 2020. Another field boundary runs roughly N-S along the E side of the monument. A ringfort (TN042-014----) lies c. 160m to the NW on the opposite side of the river.    Compiled by: Jean Farrelly
