  Description

  In ungrazed meadow, on flood plain of River Suir. Sub-oval area (dims. 24m NE-SW; 22m NW-SE) defined by gentle scarp (Wth 2.6m; H 0.55m) which is best defined W-N and levelled out N-W. Possible remains of fosse (overall Wth 4.25m; basal Wth 0.9m; D 0.15m) evident W-N. Interior uneven. Modern field boundary (long axis NW-SE) is at a tangent to SW. • TS060-071 Cliff-edge fort
  Description

  In tillage, on a natural rise, on SE-edge of high river bank, overlooking the Suir. Semi-circular area (dims. 20m NE-SW; c. 10-12m NW-SE) defined by remains of levelled bank (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.35m) N-SW which is best preserved NE-SE. Straight side to NW is defined by the steep scarp of the river bank. A long, linear bank which is reduced to scarp (Wth 6m; H 0.6m) extends (L 48m; long-axis NE-SW) from monument at NE before curving inwards (c. 10-12m) to edge of river bank. The monument appears to be enclosed by a large semi-circular enclosure (TS060-071001-) which is depicted as a field boundary on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map. • TS060-071001 Enclosure - large enclosure
  Description

  In tillage, on a natural rise, on SE-edge of high river bank, overlooking the River Suir. A large semi-circular enclosure (dims. 120m NE-SW; 82m NW-SE) with the River Suir forming the western edge of the monument. The enclosure surrounds a cliff-edge fort (TS060-071----) and possibly had a bawn-like function. It is depicted as a field boundary on the 1st (1840) ed.   Description

  In level area of improved pasture,at base of gentle W-facing slope, overlooking a precipice edge to W. Subtle traces of a semi-circular area (dims. 28m N-S; c. 15m E-W) defined by remains of levelled scarp (Wth 1.9m; H 0.1m) and traces of fosse (overall Wth 5.3; basal Wth 2m; D 0.05m) NW-ENE. • TS060-077 Weir - fish
  Description

  According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) the townland of Ballygriffin has two weirs for fishing (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 8). On the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map the E-W weir is depicted crossing the River Suir N and S of an island in the middle of the river and is called 'Mill Weir'. The two sections of the weir are indicated on the 2nd (1903-04) ed. as narrow islands which do not completely cross the river. The weir is not visible above the surface of the water, though it is likely that a large portion of the weir has been incorporated in the present island which consists of the smaller islands depicted on the 1st and 2nd ed.   Description

  In improved pasture, on a very gentle NNW-facing slope. Circular area (dims. 16m E-W; 15m N-S) defined by scarp (Wth 1.35m; H 0.45m) of earth and stone. Stone facing evident on exterior of scarp in places. Remains of fosse (overall Wth 4.7m; basal Wth 1.85m; D 0.1m). Interior has a gentle NNE-facing slope.
