• TN017-034 Enclosure
  Description

  This site encircles a natural hill in very hilly terrain, under pasture. It is roughly oval in shape (42m N-S; 52m E-W) with the interior rising to form a central platform (diam. c. 20m; H 1.76m above inner bank). Defined at N by a bank (Wth 1.2m crest, 2.2m base; int. H 0.16m; ext. H 1.25m), a berm (Wth 3m) and a scarp (H 1.3m) while the S side is delimited by an inner bank (Wth 1.2m crest, 3.3m base; int. H 0.53m; ext. H 1.19-2m), a fosse (Wth 2.3m; D 0.43m) and an outer bank (Wth 2.2m; ext. H 0.42m). Stone protruding from the inner bank may indicate stone-facing or revetment. There is a causewayed entrance (Wth 2.4m) at S. An area of outcrop occupies the centre of the E sector and a large conglomerate boulder lies in a hollow near the inner bank at E. • TN017-039 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the summit of a hill in undulating terrain. The site, which is heavily overgrown with scrub and brambles, consists of a circular area (diam. 26m) enclosed by an inner bank (Wth 1.9m; int. H 0.33m; ext. H 1.86-3.5m), a wide, flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 3.7m; D 0.9m) and a small counter-scarp bank (Wth 1.2m; ext. H 0.55-1m). There is a causewayed entrance (Wth 2.5m) in the NE quadrant with stone paving and stone lining, particularly well preserved on the SE side. A lot of stone lies on top of the banks and stone-facing is evident on the outer bank. A stone wall occupies the top of the inner bank at W. • TN017-043 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on a NE-facing slope, off the crest of a hill in rolling pastureland. The site is bisected by an E-W roadway, with a ditch to the S. A circular area (diam. 39.5m E-W) enclosed by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 2m; int. H 0.43m; ext. H 1.5m) and a shallow external fosse (Wth 1.5m; D 0.3m). The N half of the site is heavily overgrown with scrub and the S half is grass-covered. The external face of the bank is quite badly truncated in places by cattle and there is a break in the bank in the SE quadrant (Wth 1.7m) to allow tractor access; this may be on the site of the original entrance. The external face of the bank at NE has been recently revetted as part of an entrance feature to an adjacent house. Fir trees growing around the edge of the bank have been recently cut with wood left in the interior obscuring the mound mentioned in the Ikerrin Survey as possible upcast from road construction (Stout 1984, 37).   Description

  Situated on poorly drained marshy terrain at the interface between marshy and well-drained land in an upland area with a stream nearby to E. A large horseshoe-shaped mound of burnt material (dims. 15.3m N-S; 16m E-W; H 1.5-3m) with a waterlogged trough area (dims. 2.3m N-S; 3m E-W) at E.
