• TN041-037 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on rthe crest of a hill on a SW-facing slope in undulating pastureland. A circular area (diam. 50m N-S; 51m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.71m; ext. H 1.75m) and a wide, shallow external fosse (Wth 4m; D 0.5m). The site is in a good state of preservation though in the SW quadrant the bank (Wth c. 8m) has been quarried out. No clear evidence of an entrance - it may have been downslope in the quarried sector. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. • TN041-077 Enclosure
  Description

  Situated on a very gentle E-facing slope in fairly level pastureland. A roughly semicircular field boundary may be the remains of the W and S sectors of a large roughly circular enclosure (diam. 33m NE-SW; 76m NW-SE). Nothing survives above ground at N and E. The field boundary consists of scrub/hedgerow surmounting an earthen bank (Wth 1.2m; 0.7m H). A curving field boundary is marked on the 1st (1843) and 1952-3 ed. OS 6-inch maps and on an aerial photograph in the Ordnance Survey collection 0368. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.
