  Description

  Situated on the end of a high ridge (100m/328ft OD), in pasture, with commanding views of the surrounding landscape. Annotated ‘forts’ and ‘Raheenjones’ on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map where it is depicted as a large circular-shaped enclosure with a smaller conjoined circular-shaped earthwork adjoining to SE. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS map as a large subrectangular-shaped earthwork with a smaller subrectangular-shaped earthwork adjoining to SE. Monument described in 1979 as no surface remains visible. Levelled monument is visible today as a two vague conjoined subcircular-shaped cropmarks on Digital Globe aerial photography. • WM030-054 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a natural rise, in pasture, with fairly good views in all directions and overlooking the Tang River c. 70m to NE. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a large subcircular-shaped earthwork bisected by a farm trackway. Levelled monument described in 1979 as a roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 48m) bisected by a roadway running WNW-ESE across the monument. The perimeter is defined by a low scarp from WNW-N-E-ESE, on the N side of the roadway and is defined by the low remains of a levelled scarp from ESE-S-W-WNW, on the S side of the roadway. The N half of the interior has a N-facing slope and the S half has a S-facing slope and the surface is quite uneven. A disused quarry hole is situated in the W side of the natural rise on which the site is located. It has been partially infilled with field clearance stones. Levelled monument is traceable today as a roughly circular-shaped earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. • WM030-057 Enclosure - large enclosure
  Description

  Situated in pasture. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a curvilinear field boundary defining a semicircular-shaped area (approx. diam. 100m) from E-S-WSW. Monument is visible today as a tree-lined curvilinear field boundary from E-S-WSW on Digital Globe aerial photography. There is no cropmark defining the N half of this potential enclosure.   Description

  In grassland, oval-shaped area (dims. c. 65m E-W x 43m N-S) defined by a curving field boundary/watercourse from NW-N-E and elsewhere by a scarp and fosse the outline of which is clearly visible on 2013-2018 MapGenie aerial imagery and on 2011-2013 MapGenie Digital Globe imagery.
