  Description

  Situated on a gentle NE-SW slope, surrounded by gently undulating pasture-land, with excellent views from SW-W-NW. Ringfort (WM008-034---) 250m to SE. Ringfort (WM008-035---) 300m to ESE). A circular-shaped area (diam. 30m N-S; 25.5m E-W) enclosed by a very poorly preserved earthen bank, almost completely levelled from SW-W-N, with a shallow fosse and low external bank at S. There is an entrance gap at WSW. The interior rises slightly towards the centre and has traces of cultivation ridges which run E-W.   Description

  Situated on SE face of a slight natural rise in gently undulating grassland. Overlooked by higher ground to the E and SE, with good views from S-W-NE. Ringfort (WM008-035----) 100m to NE. A sub-circular shaped area (diam. 29m N-S; 32m E-W) enclosed by a very poorly preserved earthen bank and shallow external fosse. The interior slopes from E-W, and there are traces of cultivation ridges running NW-SE. The monument has been substantially levelled.   Description

  Situated in pasture-land on a slight natural rise surrounded by gentle undulating land, with good views to SW, W & NNE. Ringfort (WM008-033---) 250m to NW. A circular shaped area (diam. 32m N-S; 28m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved fragmentary earthen bank and a wide, flat-bottomed fosse, filled in at E & SE, and possibly recently re-dug at N. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2m) at ESE. The interior rises towards the centre and has vague traces of cultivation ridges which run NNE-SSW.   Description

  Situated on a slight natural rise surrounded by hilly grass-land. Ringfort (WM008-039---) 70m to SE. A raised sub-rectangular shaped area long axis WNW-ESE, enclosed by a grass-covered bank and traces of an outer bank and fosse at N. The monument is divided internally by an earthen bank which has gaps which may represent doorways. Appears to be the grass-covered remains of a rectangular house of unknown antiquity.   Description

  Situated on a slight natural rise in gently undulating grassland, overlooked by higher ground to the E and S, with excellent views to the W & N. Ringfort (WM008-039----) 105m to SE. A raised sub-rectangular shaped area (approx. dims. 36m N-S; 20m E-W) enclosed by a two poorly preserved earthen banks and intervening fosse. The inner bank is best preserved at N, and is levelled elsewhere. The slight fosse is visible only at N & SW, and outer bank is only visible at N. There is an entrance gap (Wth 0.9m) at W.   Description

  Situated on a natural rise surrounded by gently undulating grass-land. House (WM008-036---) 70m to NW. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as a sub-rectangular shaped enclosure annotated as 'Fort' with a small rectangular ruin in the interior. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a rectangular building (approx. dims. 15m N-S x 3m E-W) standing in the centre of a sub-rectangular shaped field (approx. dims. 45m N-S; 25m E-W).   Description

  Situated on the S face of a natural slope, surrounded by undulating pasture-land, with extensive views to the N, E & S. An oval-shaped area (dims. 49m N-S x 24.2m E-W) enclosed by a well preserved earth and stone bank (max. H 2m) with slight traces of an external fosse at N. • WM008-042 Moated site
  Description

  Situated on the E face of a natural hillock in undulating pasture-land which is wet in places. Earthwork (WM008-044---) 100m to SE. Earthwork (WM008-043---) 120m to S. A rectangular shaped area (approx. dims. 22m NW-SE x 35m NE-SW) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and a wide flat-bottomed fosse. The monument has been levelled from S-WSW. The interior slopes WSW-ENE. A modern septic tank has been constructed in the NW quadrant of the interior, during the digging of which a George II penny dated 1744 was found (local information). • WM008-043 Settlement cluster
  Description

  Situated on a small natural ridge in undulating grass-land with good views in all directions. Popssible moated site (WM008-042----) 65m to NNE and ringfort (WM008-044----) 110m to E. According to local information the complex series of depressions and/or earthworks in this field marks the site of the 'old town of Brownstown'. A cluster of buildings 50m to N are annotated as 'Brownstown Old' on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. All that remains of this complex of depressions is a rectangular shaped area (approx. dims. 6m N-S x 9m E-W) enclosed by a low earthen bank and fosse.   Description

  Situated on a natural hillock in undulating grass-land, with marshy ground at S & SW side of hillock. Possible moated site (WM008-042----) 100m to NW and possible settlement earthworks of 'Old Brownstown' 100m to W. Depicted as a circular shaped earthwork on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. Depicted as a sub-rectangular shaped earthwork on the 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map (approx. dims. 40m NW-SE x 28m NE-SW). No surface remains visible as the earthwork has been levelled. According to an ASI field report from 1975 the landowner found ‘two human graves side by side’ when bulldozing the site three years previously (1972).
