• WM023-050 Earthwork
  Description

  Situated on a low rise, in undulating pasture. Levelled monument described in 1971 as no surface remains visible. A silage pit has been built in the centre of the monument location. Mounds of earth and stone lie against the walls of the silage pit. There is no trace of an enclosing bank or scarp. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. • WM023-052 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a very slight rise, in gently undulating pasture. Bivallate ringfort described in 1971 as a roughly circular-shaped area (dims. 42m E-W; 36.6m N-S) enclosed by a bank, an intervening fosse and an outer bank. The inner bank is high and steep on the exterior and is almost reduced to a scarp on the interior, with several modern gaps. A portion of the bank has been quarried away from SSE-S-WSW and a modern stone wall has been built just outside the base, where the ground is also disturbed. There are traces of a wide intervening fosse which is best preserved from SE-ESE. The outer bank is well defined and best preserved from SE-ESE, being visible in places outside the modern wall. Elsewhere, the ground at the foot of the outer bank is disturbed and a modern field bank intersects at ENE. The original entrance is not recognisable. The interior has traces of cultivation ridges running NW-SE. A Preservation Order was placed on this monument 05/02/1975 (SMR file). Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. • WM023-053 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight rise, in gently undulating and hilly pasture with good views to E, S, and SW. Bivallate ringfort described in 1971 and 1977 as an oval-shaped area (diam. 30m) enclosed by a steep bank, an intervening fosse and an outer bank. A modern wall running E-W crosses the N quadrant. The inner earth and stone bank is narrow and is almost reduced to a scarp with several modern disturbance gaps. A shallow intervening fosse is visible at N, S and SW. There are traces of a slight outer bank visible from S-WSW. A modern bank intersects the base of the inner bank at WSW. The original entrance is not recognisable. The interior rises appreciably from the perimeter towards the centre where there is a wide shallow depression. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien.   Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1810. Hipped natural slate roof with cement rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls over plinth course. Square-headed window openings with cut stone sills and timber sash windows. Central round-headed door opening with spoked fanlight over and a timber panelled door. et back from road with mature garden to front elevation (south). Complex of rubble limestone outbuildings to the rear (north) having pitched natural slate roofs. Rubble limestone boundary wall to road frontage (west) with rendered gate piers supporting cast-iron gates. Located to the southeast of Glassan.
