• WM031-067 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated in undulating pasture, with good views of the surrounding landscape. Ringforts (WM031-069----/068----) lie c. 165m to S and c. 200m to SW. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular-shaped earthwork and on the 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a subcircular-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1973 as a roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 40m) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone with a slight external fosse. A field wall runs outside most of the fosse. There is a possible entrance at SE. The interior has a slight W-facing slope. Monument is visible today as a tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography.   Description

  Situated on a rise in gently undulating pasture, with good views of the surrounding landscape. Ringforts (WM031-069----/-067----) lie c. 60m to E and c. 200m to NE. Depicted on the 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a subcircular-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1973 as a roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 33m) enclosed by well-preserved bank of earth and stone. A large number of boulders cleared from the surrounding field have been deposited against the outer face of the bank. There does not appear to be a fosse. There is an entrance at SE where the bank juts out into the interior on the SW side of it. The interior is uneven with a scatter of loose stones and there is a house site (WM031-068001-) in the centre. Monument is visible today as a tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography.   Description

  Situated on a rise in gently undulating pasture, with good views of the surrounding landscape. In centre of ringfort (WM031-068----) are the remains of a roughly circular-shaped area defined by the sod-covered stone foundations of a now very overgrown house site.   Description

  Situated on a rise in gently undulating pasture, with good views of the surrounding landscape. Ringforts (WM031-068----/-067----) lie c. 60m to W and c. 165m to N. Depicted on the 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a substantial oval-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1973 as a large, roughly oval-shaped area (dims. 63m N-S; 51m E-W) enclosed by an inner bank of earth and stone, an intervening fosse and an outer bank. Traces of an outer bank are only present from WSW-W-WNW. There is a possible entrance at NE. The interior has a gentle S-facing slope and there is a possible house site (WM031-069001-) within.
