  Description

  Situated on a low rise, in tillage, with good views in all directions. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a large oval-shaped earthwork (approx. dims. 62m E-W; 42m N-S). Annotated ‘Fort’ on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map. Monument described in 1966 as an oval-shaped platform (H 4-5ft /1.2-1.5m) defined by a scarp with no external fosse and a causewayed entrance at E (OPW Field Report 22/09/1969). Levelled monument described in 1970 as no surface remains visible. Levelled monument is not visible today on Digital Globe aerial photography.   Description

  Situated on a low rise, in generally level pasture, with excellent views to NW and SE. Depicted as a circular-shaped earthwork on the Longford Estate Map of 1767 and Larkin’s 1808 Map of Co. Westmeath. Depicted on the 1837 OS 6-inch map as an oval-shaped tree-ring. Monument described in 1980 as a natural rise or ridge which was planted with trees in antiquity. There is a large shallow depression in the N side of the ridge where quarrying activities took place in the past. A slight mound on the top of the ridge at the S end of the depression is probably due to up-cast from the quarrying. The area of the depression and the ridge just S of it is overgrown with trees. No surface remains visible of an earthwork. This appears to be a landscape feature of Craddockstown House, which lies c. 190m to NW.   Description

  Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1880, comprising banded cylindrical shaft with fluted head having fluted spout and ‘cow tail’ curvilinear handle. Original cap now missing. Set on cement rendered base with drain to east. Located along roadside to the north of Raharney Village.

• Craddenstown House, country house, 1780–1870 · Regional interest
  Description

  Semi-detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1800 and altered c.1860, with (later) centrally located pedimented breakfront to front façade (south). Hipped natural slate roof with overhanging eaves and rendered chimneystacks. Roughcast rendered walls with projecting string course to breakfront at first floor level and projecting eaves course. Square-headed window openings with cut stone sills having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows. Segmental-headed window openings, in recessed segmental-headed arches, flank entrance bay to ground floor on entrance front (south) to east and west. Paired one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows at first floor level over doorcase to entrance front. Central round-headed doorcase to breakfront (south) having cut stone surround with columns supporting an open-bed pediment over. Timber panelled door with plain glass fanlight above. Complex of single and two-storey rubble stone outbuildings to north with pitched natural slate roofs and brick chimneystacks. Set back from road in extensive mature grounds with rubble limestone boundary wall to road frontage (south and west). Main entrance to west with pair of dressed limestone gate piers (on square-plan), with flat limestone capstones over, having wrought-iron double gates. Located to the north of Raharney.

  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1800, flanked by recessed lower two-storey two-bay wings to either side (east and west). Single-bay single-storey lean-to extension to the east end. Pitched natural slate roof having rendered chimneystacks to gable ends of main block and raised verges to gable ends of all structures. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed window openings having replacement windows replicating the original fenestration pattern with Wyatt windows to ground floor openings and six-over-six pane windows over to first floor of central block. Six-over-six pane windows to ground floor of flanking wings with three-over-three pane windows over to first floor on flanking block to west. Central round-headed doorcase to main block with cut limestone surround having blocks to base, keystone over and a cavetto-style lintel. Timber panelled door with leaded spider's web fanlight over. Timber panelled door with bolection moulding and central fillet moulding having leaded 'spider's web' fanlight over. Two granite steps to gravel forecourt (south). Two sets of rubble limestone gate piers on circular plan give access to complex of rubble stone outbuildings to the rear (north). Set back from road in own grounds with modern gates and concrete piers to the west. Located to the north of Raharney immediately to the north of a road junction.
