• WM025-043 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a low rise, in undulating pasture, with good views to SSE, SW, W and NW. Monument described as a much disturbed, oval-shaped area (dims. 26m NW-SE; 23.5m NE-SW) enclosed by a steep earthen bank, an intervening fosse and an outer bank with possible entrance gap (Wth at top 3.9m; basal Wth 2.2m) at E. The inner bank is reduced to a scarp from NW-N-E. There are slight traces of internal stone facing at S and a modern facing on the exterior of the scarp from S-W-NW. There are traces of a shallow fosse and a low outer bank from SW-W. Modern fences intersect the scarp at S, WNW and NW.   Description

  Situated on a low rise, in gently undulating and hilly pasture, with extensive views to SSE. In the centre of ringfort (WM025-043----) is a slight subcircular-shaped depression (approx. diam. 5.4m) which may be the remains of a house site. • WM025-044 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight rise, in low-lying, undulating pasture, with good views to SSE and overlooked by a ridge to NE. Monument described as a much disturbed subcircular-shaped area (approx. dims. 30m NW-SE) enclosed by an earthen bank and external fosse with no clear entrance feature visible. The earthen bank is substantial and visible from SW-W-N and is reduced to a low, steep scarp from SSE-S-SW with vague traces of an external fosse. The perimeter and a portion of the interior have been levelled out from N-E-S-SSE. The interior is much disturbed by cultivation ridges and trenches. A modern earth and stone field bank running NNE-SSW extends across the W quadrant of the monument. There is a gap in the scarp on either side of this field bank at SW. A modern wall running NW-SE extends across the perimeter of the monument at NE. There are old field banks and depressions to S and W of the monument. • WM025-045 Souterrain
  Description

  Situated near the crest of a low rise, in gently undulating pasture, with good views to N, W and extensive views to S and E. Monument described in 1978 as a slump into a souterrain which is blocked by a collapsed of earth and stone. A narrow view of a passage can be seen by removing some of the stones. The opening of a passage way can be seen in the edge of the rise, approx. 9m to NW. A large roof slab can be seen in the face of the rise at this location. This opening of the passage is blocked with stones and some iron sheeting. The area of the souterrain is traversed by field fences running NE-SW and NW-SE. This natural rise would have been suitable for the siting of a ringfort, although there is no visible surface trace of one. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien.
