Description
Situated on the lower S facing slope of a high ridge in hilly grassland. Ringfort (WM012-137---) 90m to NE. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as a circular shaped earthwork annotated as a ‘fort’. Levelled site now only visible as a faint crop mark on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. Described in 1970 as a levelled site visible only as a scarp (approx. diam. 39m NW-SE; 47m NE-SW) sloping gradually to S. A field fence running NW-SE ran across the NE quadrant of the site. - WM012-137 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on the lower S facing slope of a high ridge in hilly grassland with good views to SE and SW. Ringfort (WM012-136---) 90m to SW. This site has been levelled, and is visible only as a cropmark on the Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. Described in 1970 as a circular shaped area (approx. diam. 31m NW-SE; 31m NE-SW) enclosed by a two earthen banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is low and wide (Wth 6.8m; H 0.4m), the wide fosse (Wth 5.4m) is visible from N-E-SE, and the low outer bank (Wth 1.9m; H 0.52m) arcs around the fosse. There is an entrance gap at S. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running NNW-SSE across the interior, which slopes to the SSW. A field fence originally ran along the line of the perimeter from S-NW. Description
Three adjoining three-bay two-storey worker's houses on H-shaped plan, built c.1820, now amalgamated into a single-property and in use as a garage, shop and furniture warehouse with accommodation over. Pitched natural slate roofs with decorative bargeboards and rendered chimneystacks. Constructed of coursed rubble limestone with square-headed openings with replacement fittings. Lean-to extension to southeast corner. Road-fronted adjacent to crossroad junction. Located to the north of Knockdrin Castle (15401222).
