  Description

  No surface remains visible of levelled monument. Depicted on 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a semi-circular shaped enclosure intersected at NE by a roadway running NNW-SSE. No depicted on subsequent editions of the OS 6-inch maps. Cropmark of circular shaped enclosure barely visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. • WM012-051 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the N face of a small ridge with restricted views on all sides. A small lake lies 60m to N. The road which marks the boundary with Galmoylestown Lower is 15m to NE. Ringfort (WM012-050---) 65m to NW. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as an oval-shaped enclosure and annotated as ‘fort’. The site was not depicted on any subsequent edition of the OS 6-inch maps. The monument has been largely levelled and is visible as a cropmark on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. On this aerial photograph cropmark of a possible rectangular annexe is visible at NE with linear earthwork possibly a sunken way visible immediately to S. The ringfort was described in 1970 as a sub-circular shaped area (approx. dims 39m NE-SW; 31m NW-SE) enclosed by the remains of a poorly preserved earthen bank and external fosse. • WM012-052 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the top of a low ridge in grassland. Ringfort (WM012-051---) 100m to N, second ringfort (WM012-053---) 80m to SSW. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 34m N-S; 32m E-W) enclosed by a well preserved earthen bank and deep external fosse. The bank has been reduced to a scarp from SE-S-SW, and the fosse is best defined from NW-NE, and partially infilled elsewhere. The perimeter and part of the interior has been quarried away from NE-SE. The interior slopes slightly to the SE, and contains traces of cultivation ridges running E-W.   Description

  Situated in a hollow between two ridges running NE-SW, in grassland with ringfort (WM012-052---) 80m to NNE. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 25m N-S) enclosed by a well preserved earthen bank and deep external fosse. The bank is best preserved from NNW-NE and has been reduced to a scarp elsewhere. The external fosse is best defined from W-NNE. A large quarry hole has been dug in the fosse at W. There are suggestions of a possible causewayed entrance and depression in the scarp at SE.   Description

  Situated on a slight natural rise in low lying grassland, with views somewhat restricted by surrounding hills. Ringfort (WM012-109---) 160m to SE. A circular shaped area (approx. diam. 26m N-S; 29m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank and a slight external fosse. There is a possible entrance gap (Wth 1.3m) at WSW. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running NE-SW across the interior, which slopes slightly to SSE. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI.
