The development proposed seeks to utilise existing permitted ancillary buildings and facilities including fixed field transfer conveyor, silt storage lagoons, portacabin structures comprising of site offices, canteen, and toilets; wheelwash; weighbridge; maintenance shed; bunded fuel storage tanks and hydrocarbon interceptor; effluent treatment systems and percolation areas and carparking area; The proposed development application area is c.41.3 hectares within an overall land interest area of c.58.8 hectares, and all for a period of 40 years. • WM012-038 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on S face of a high hill in grassland, with excellent views from E-S-W. The townland boundary with Larkinstown is 10m to W, while the levelled field fence which forms the boundary with Down townland intersected the E-W perimeter of the monument. A small sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 22m N-S; 20m E-W) enclosed by a slight earthen bank and a wide deep fosse. The bank is best preserved from NE-ESE, elsewhere it is fragmentary and almost completely levelled. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2m) and causeway at SSE. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running NNE-SSW across the interior. Adjoining the monument on the N is a rectangular annexe (approx. dims. 6m N-S: 7m E-W) enclosed by a low earthen bank and external fosse. The E side of this annexe appears to have been levelled by a later field bank which crosses the rath fosse at NNE and continues to the N away from the site.   Description

  Situated on the SSW face of a steep hill in grassland, with good views to the S and W. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as a circular shaped enclosure annotated as ‘fort’ with a gravel pit shown on its S side. No surface remains visible of levelled site visible as a cropmark on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. Monument was upstanding in 1973 when it was described as a circular slightly raised area (approx. diam. 39m NW-SE) enclosed by a wide low bank and external fosse (Wth 4m; D 0.1m). Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running N-S across the interior. The perimeter of the monument has been quarried away on the SW side. The field fence which formed the boundary with Galmoylestown Lower originally ran in a N-S direction along the perimeter of the monument on its E side.   Description

  Sited on SSE facing slope of high ridge in gently undulating grassland with good views to the SW and W, a small lake lies 50m to NE. Ringfort (WM012-050----) 40m to SE. A circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 31m NW-SE) enclosed by a low poorly preserved earthen bank and a wide shallow external fosse. The bank is almost levelled from NNW-E, and the fosse is visible from SSE-WSW. There is a possible entrance gap (Wth 3.8m) at ESE. The interior slopes slightly to E. The monument is enclosed by a field fence from WSW-N, and intersected at SE by a post-1700 field fence running NE-SW. Monument clearly visible on aerial photographs taken by Cambridge University in 1968 and 1970 (CUCAP AVO056-057; BDV073). See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI.   Description

  Situated on the lower SSE face of a high ridge in gently undulating grassland with good views to the SW and W with a small lake 60m to NE. Ringfort (WM012-049----) 40m to NW. A circular shaped area (approx. diam. 28m NW-SE) enclosed by a low poorly preserved earthen bank and a well defined external fosse that has been infilled at SW, and steepened from E-S. There is a possible causewayed entrance (Wth 2.4m; H 0.2m) at SSE. The interior slopes slightly to WSW, and contains traces of cultivation ridges which run ENE-WSW. The fosse is intersected at SW by a field fence running NW-SE. Linear earthworks are visible in field to SE on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. A possible sunken road is also visible on the aerial photographs to NW of ringfort. These earthworks are clearly visible on aerial photographs taken by Cambridge University in 1968 and 1970 (CUCAP AVO055-057; BDV073). The earthworks in the field to SE appear to represent field boundaries of two buildings which are depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map.
