• WM013-022 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a wide ridge with good views of the surrounding grassland. The road which marks the townland boundary with Clondalever lies 30m to NW. Ringfort (WM013-024---) 360m to SE. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 33m NE-SW) enclosed by an earth and stone bank with an entrance gap (Wth 2.5m) at SW. The perimeter has been dug into in the NW quadrant. Some low mounds of stone are visible at the centre of the interior, which slopes gently from the centre towards WSW. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI. • WM013-024 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a small hillock in grassland, surrounded by higher land on all sides. Ringfort (WM013-022---) 360m to NW. The site has been substantially levelled. All that is visible now is the arc of a poorly preserved earth and stone bank with shallow external fosse, curving from NE-E-S-SW. Elsewhere the enclosing element of the monument has been levelled. No monument is depicted at this location on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map and only the curving arc of the enclosing feature is depicted on revised 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map. • Gigginstown House, house, 1853–1855 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey country house, built c.1854, with projecting single-bay pedimented breakfront and a projecting single-storey ashlar limestone Doric porch to centre of entrance front (south). Shallow hipped natural slate roof with heavy ashlar limestone eaves cornice and two centrally located moulded ashlar limestone chimneystacks with terracotta chimney pots over. Rendered walls with strip pilasters to corners of main building and to breakfront. Projecting ashlar limestone plinth to base. Square-headed openings with cut stone sills and six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows. Central square-headed doorcase, behind projecting Doric porch, with timber panelled door. Doorcase flanked by timber sash windows/sidelights with margin glazing and reached by flight of cut limestone steps. Set back from road in extensive mature grounds to the northwest of Delvin. Complex of single and two-storey rubble limestone outbuildings with pitched natural slate roofs to rear (north). Main entrance gates (15401303) and attendant gate lodge (15401302) to the south.

• Gigginstown House, gate lodge, 1850–1855 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay single-storey gate-lodge on complex plan, built c.1854, with projecting single-bay pedimented porch with Doric columns to centre of main façade (east). Now in use as a private dwelling. Single-bay pedimented projections to east and west ends of side elevations (north and south). Pitched slate roofs with bracketed eaves and a single ashlar limestone chimneystack to centre of entrance front (east). Rendered walls over projecting plinth with ashlar limestone detailing, including verges to pediments and Doric columns to main and north and south facades. Round-headed window openings to entrance façade and to projecting porch (east) with four-over-four pane timber sliding sash windows, square-headed openings with timber sliding sash windows elsewhere (north and south). Square-headed doorcase to projecting porch (east) with architraved surround and replacement timber panelled door. Located adjacent to main gates to Gigginstown House (15401303).

• Gigginstown House, demesne walls/gates/railings, 1853–1855 · Regional interest
  Description

  Entrance gates to Gigginstown House, erected c.1854, comprising two central tapered/pylon-style ashlar limestone gate piers, on square-plan with carved and pedimented ashlar limestone capstones over, with associated cast-iron double-gates. Central gateway flanked to either side (east and west) by three ashlar limestone piers on square-plan with round heads, linked by sections of ashlar limestone plinth walling with cast-iron railings over. Entrance gates terminated by sections of screen walling with tapered gate piers on square-plan with pyramidal limestone coping over. Located to the south of Gigginstown House adjacent to attendant gate lodge (15401302).
