• WM007-036 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a steep prominent hill in pasture-land with good views of surrounding countryside. Ringfort (WM007-058----) 50m to SE. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. dims. 48m N-S; 57m E-W) enclosed by a well preserved earthen bank (max. H 1.5m) and slight fosse, both of which have several small disturbance gaps. The interior slopes from ENE-WSW, and has traces of cultivation ridges running NW-SE. In the NE quadrant of the interior there is an oval round-topped mound (max. H 1.5m), which appears to be the remains of an OS trigonometrical station measuring the height 408ft as depicted on the 1911 ed. OS 6-inch map.   Description

  Situated on a natural ridge in pasture-land with good views of surrounding countryside. Ringfort (WM007-036----) 50m to NW. A sub-circular raised area (35m N-S; 38m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank, almost completely levelled at W. The interior rises towards the centre, and has slight traces of cultivation ridges. A post-1837 NE-SW field boundary intersects the monument at E.   Description

  Situated on a slight rise in wet grassland with Yellow River 110m to SSW. Ringfort (WM007-058---) 660m to N. A circular shaped area (approx. diam. 50m N-S; 45m E-W) enclosed by a very poorly preserved earthen bank and shallow external fosse. A post 1700 field drain running ENE-WSW intersects the site at SW, and there is a modern gap at NW. • WM007-060 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated in pasture-land on a terrace on the NNE facing slope just below the summit of a prominent hill, with good views of the undulating countryside and lakes. The ground around the immediate vicinity of the monument is poorly drained. Modern coniferous plantation immediately to W, N and E of site. Bivallate ringfort consisting of a raised circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 36m E-W) enclosed by two earth and stone banks and fosses with a wide intervening space (approx. Wth 8m). The low, broad inner bank is almost completely levelled from NNE-N. The outer bank has been replaced by a modern field bank at SW. There is an entrance at SE represented by gap in the inner bank (Wth 2.8m), a causeway across the inner fosse (Wth 6.60m; H 1m) and a gap in the outer bank (Wth 3.9m) and causeway (Wth 4.50m) across the outer fosse. There are three radial banks in the penannular space between the banks. The interior slopes from N to S. To the N of the centre is a low broad earthen bank, which appears to be the remains of a sub-rectangular shaped hut site (WM007-060001-).   Description

  Situated on a terrace on the NNE facing slope just below summit of a prominent hill, overlooking the undulating countryside. In the N quadrant of a ringfort (WM007-060---) there is a low broad earthen bank, which appears to be the remains of a sub-rectangular shaped hut site.   Description

  Situated on the shoulder of a hill in pasture-land with commanding views over the valley to SE. Small lake 80m to N. Ringfort (WM007-060---) 500m to N. Ringfort (WM007-064----) 450 to SE. A circular raised area (approx. diam. 29m E-W; 30m N-S) enclosed by a well preserved earthen bank, a steep fosse and outer bank. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2.5m) through the banks at E. The interior slopes gently from SW-NE. A post-1700 laneway running N-S intersected the site at W. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular ringfort with laneway and farmhouse immediately to W with field boundaries radiating out from site at NNE and S.   Description

  Situated on the shoulder of a hill in pasture-land, with good views from E-W-S. Ringfort (WM007-060----) 220m to NW. Small lake 220m to SW. Annotated as 'Fort' on the 1837 OS Fair Plan where it is depicted as a circular-shaped earthwork. Depicted as a circular shaped earthwork on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. The site has been levelled and today there are no surface remains visible. The levelled monument is isible as a faint circular crop mark (approx. diam 42m N-S) on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011.
