• WM036-026 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the summit of a small ridge running N-S, in otherwise rough pasture with limited views of the surrounding landscape. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a subcircular-shaped tree-planted enclosure, possibly a tree-ring associated with Hall House located 750m to SE. Monument described in 1977 as a roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 27m) enclosed by a bank reduced to a scarp in places. A bank is visible from NW-N-NE and from SE-S-SW and a steep scarp is present elsewhere. There are rocks protruding from the face of the scarp intermittently. A fosse cuts deeply through the ridge (at right angles to its axis) from NW-N-NE and from SE-S-SW and there is little sign of it elsewhere. There is no indication of an original entrance. The interior has a gradual E-facing slope and there are no obvious features. Monument is visible today as a roughly circular-shaped tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography. Possibly as ringfort that was reused as a tree-ring in the post 1700 period. Possibly not an antiquity but a designed landscape feature. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. • WM036-027 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a low ridge running N-S, in otherwise rough wet pasture. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a subcircular-shaped tree-planted enclosure. Monument described in 1977 as a large roughly circular-shaped platform (diam. 36m) defined by a steep scarp and external fosse. The site was reused as a tree ring in more recent times and both scarp and fosse have been disturbed. There is no sign of an entrance. The interior of the site is level to N and W but slopes downwards to S to E. There are no internal structures visible. Monument is visible today as a roughly circular-shaped tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography. Possible ringfort reused as a tree-ring in the post-1700 period as part of the landscaping of the demesne of Hall House located 445m to SSE.   Description

  Situated on a low ridge running N-S, in pasture, on the demesne lands of Hall House located 450m to E. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a subcircular-shaped tree-planted enclosure. Monument described in 1977 as a raised roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 33m) enclosed by a bank and external fosse. The bank is slight and has been planted to form a hedge. A field fence runs into the bank and obscures the fosse from S-SW-WSW. The fosse has been widened or quarried from WNW-W-N. There is a gap at N which may be the original entrance. The interior has a gentle E-facing slope and has no obvious structures. Possible ringfort is visible today as a subcircular-shaped tree-planted earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography. Possible ringfort reused as a tree-ring in the post-1700 period as part of the landscaping of the demesne of Hall House. Possibly not an antiquity but a designed landscape feature.   Description

  Located on flat poorly drained land with ecclesiastical enclosure (WM036-042004-) 290m to E. No surface remains visible of holy well dedicated to St. Patrick which has been filled in, people used to visit this holy well on St. Patrick's Day as well as visiting the nearby bullaun stone known locally as St. Patrick's Knee Stone (WM036-042003-).
