• WM020-101 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight rise, in gently undulating pasture, with a pond to N and good views in all directions. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly oval-shaped earthwork (dims. 35m NW-SE; 31m NE-SW) enclosed by a field boundary. Monument described in 1970 as a roughly circular-shaped earthwork enclosed by a bank. The bank is best preserved from WSW-W-N-E and elsewhere it is almost reduced to a scarp. The lower edge of the scarp has been steepened to form part of a modern fence from S-W-WNW. There is no visible trace of a fosse. The interior has a WNW-facing slope. Monument is visible as a roughly oval-shaped tree-planted earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography.   Description

  Situated on a steep natural rise, in gently undulating pasture, having good views in all directions. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a large, roughly circular-shaped earthwork (approx. diam. 54m). Monument described in 1970 as a large, roughly circular-shaped area enclosed by a bank and external fosse. The bank is best preserved from NNE-NE-E and elsewhere it is almost reduced to a scarp with several modern gaps. The slight fosse is visible from NW-NNE and from S-W. The interior rises gently towards centre where there is a bullaun stone (WM020-102001-). Levelled monument is not visible today on Digital Globe aerial photography.   Description

  Situated on a steep natural rise, in gently undulating pasture, having good views in all directions. Bullaun stone described in 1970 as being within the centre of a levelled ringfort (WM020-102----). Described in a later field report (undated) as the enclosure having been levelled and the bullaun stone pushed up against the field fence c. 18m to SE. • Joristown House, farmyard complex, house, 1790–1800 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached multi-bay two-storey house/farmhouse, built c.1795, having a single-bay flat-roofed entrance porch to the centre of the front façade (west). Outbuildings to the west and to the north creating a courtyard on U-shaped plan. Now out of use and derelict. Half-hipped natural slate roof (graded with larger slates to lower courses) with a pair of rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Terracotta pots over chimneystack to the north. Roughcast rendered walls over rubble stone construction. Smooth rendered plinth to base. Square-headed window openings, irregularly spaced, with cut stone sills and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Wyatt window to front face of porch (east). Square-headed doorways to the north face of porch and to the south end of main façade (east) having timber sheeted doors. Detached four-bay two-storey outbuilding to the west, aligned along alignment of former house/farmhouse, having half-hipped hipped natural slate roof with rendered chimneystacks. Randomly coursed rubble stone walls with roughly dressed quoins to the corners. Date inscribed to one the quoins to the southeast corner of building, reading ‘Anno Domini 1795’. Square-headed window openings to east and west elevations with brick dressings and cut stone sills. Window fittings now gone. Segmental-headed window openings with dressed stone surrounds to the south gable end at first floor level. Square-headed integral carriage arches and square-headed doorcases to the east elevation with the remains of timber sheeted doors/double-doors having overlights above. Single-storey former stable range to the north, having corrugated metal mono-pitched roofs and timber sheeted walls having square-headed doorways with timber sheet doors. Rubble stone boundary wall to the rear of stable ranges having an integral segmental-headed carriage arch to the centre with dressed limestone voussoirs. Set well back from road in own grounds, shared with modern farmyard to the west. Located to the west of Raharney.

  Description

  A pair of semi-detached two-bay two-storey estate workers' houses, built c.1880, originally in use as a groom’s house and gardener’s house associated with Joristown House (15313001). Now converted into a single property and in use as a private house having a modern extension to the rear (north). Hipped natural slate roof with a (shared) red brick chimneystack to the centre and having cast-iron rainwater goods. Square-headed window openings with lintels over and multi-pane timber casement windows. Square-headed door openings with replacement timber doors. red brick relieving arches over a number of the window and door openings. Single-storey stable block to the rear (north) having hipped timber shingle roof and timber sheeted walls. Gateway with wrought-iron gate gives access to stable block from the house. Building surrounded by the remains of a former walled garden, having red brick internal walls and rubble limestone external construction. Wrought-iron field gate to the north of stable block with interlacing flat bars. Located to the north of Joristown House (15313001) and to the west of Raharney.
