• WM024-153 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on SSW-facing slope overlooking wet land to WSW, in undulating pasture, with good views to WSW. Annotated 'Fort' and depicted on the 1837 ed. OS Fair Plan map as a large, oval-shaped earthwork. Depicted on the 1876 ed. OS 6-inch map as a modified oval-shaped enclosure which has been incorporated into field fences. Monument described in 1971 as a roughly D-shaped area (dims. 59m E-W; 56m N-S) enclosed by a stone wall of differing widths and heights and may represent a modern enclosing element of a feature which has since been levelled. • WM024-159 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a steep rocky hillock, in rough, undulating pasture. Ringfort (WM024-160----) lies c. 105m to N. Monument described in 1971 as a small roughly circular-shaped area enclosed by a bank which is almost reduced to a scarp which appears to have been steepened all the way round in relatively modern times. There is no definite trace of an external fosse. No entrance feature visible. The interior rises gently from the perimeter towards the centre. Modern field fences intersect the scarp at W and ESE. The monument is largely obscured by dense vegetation. A house site (WM024-159001-) is visible in the NE quadrant. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien.   Description

  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1900, having a central single-bay flat roofed porch to the centre of the front façade (northwest) flanked by canted bay windows to either side. Pitched slate roof with raised rendered verges, cast-iron rainwater goods and a pair of rendered chimneystacks to the centre. Cement rendered walls to ground floor with roughcast rendered walls over to the first floor, separated by a projecting rendered string course. Projecting plinth to base and rasied block quoins to the corners. Square-headed window openings with two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows and cut stone sills. Round-headed opening to front face of porch having recessed square-headed doorcase with timber panelled door having glazed surrounds. Set back from road in own grounds with single-storey outbuildings to the north. The site is accessed by an avenue curving down from a pair of cement rendered gate piers. Located to the east of Boher and to the southwest of Loughanavally.
