  Description

  Situated on SSE face of a slight natural rise, surrounded by gently undulating grassland with good views from S-W. Ringfort (WM011-064---) 125m to SSE. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular-shaped enclosure (approx. diam. 25m E-W). This site has been partially levelled. A slightly raised area enclosed by a prominent earthen bank. This bank is only visible from ESE-S-NW. Elsewhere the bank has been levelled. The interior has a slight slope from NNW-SSE. From SSW-W-WSW the perimeter formed part of a field boundary running NNW-SSE, and appears to have been steepened. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI.   Situated on a natural terrace in grassland on SW facing slope of rising ground with good views to NW & SE. Earthwork (WM011-058----) 130m to SSW. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 32m N-S; 30m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and shallow external fosse visible at S & W with possible entrance gap (Wth 1.9m) at S.   Situated at the base of a SW facing slope on a low hillock in in grassland with marshy land 60m to S. Ringfort (WM011-057----) 130m to NNE. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a D-shaped enclosure with straight side at SW and field boundary running off NNE and W side of monument. Not indicated on the revised 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map suggesting that the monument was levelled between the two map dates. No surface remains visible of this possible ringfort.   Situated on a slight rise of reclaimed grassland on the W side of a hill with ringfort (WM011-063----) 165m to NNE and marsh land 170m to SW. Depicted as a small circular earthwork on 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map but not indicated on 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map suggesting that the monument was levelled between these two dates. Annotated as a 'fort' on the 1837 OS Fair plan map. Barely visible outline of the levelled enclosure (approx. diam. 16m) survives as a very faint earthen bank (Wth 1.8m; H 0.45m).   Situated on a slight terrace on the W facing slope of a high hill in grassland, with good views to the NW, SW & S. Earthwork (WM011-062---) 180m to SSW. A large oval-shaped area (approx. dims. 60m NW-SE x 38m NE-SW) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and a very slight external fosse. From NNW-N-E-SSE the perimeter of the site has been levelled. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running E-W across the interior of the monument.   Situated on well drained grassland. Ringfort (WM011-036---) 120m to NNW. Ringfort (WM011-065----) 155m to S. The townland boundary with Heathland is 85m to E. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam 25m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and shallow external fosse. The bank and fosse have been steepened from S-NNW where the perimeter of the site forms part of a field fence. From ENE-SE the bank has been levelled. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 33m N-S; 27m E-W) enclosed by a very poorly preserved earthen bank and slight external fosse. The interior has a slight slope from W-E.   Description

  Situated on a slight natural rise surrounded by gently undulating grassland. Ringfort (WM011-067----) 165m to ENE. Ringfort (WM011-068----) 170m to SE. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 25m N-S; 28m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank. The bank is levelled from SSW-W-NW. The interior has a general slope from SW-NE. A large quarry hole is visible in the interior. An ESB pole has been erected on the E perimeter of the monument, and there is a small modern pump house at S. A field fence running NNW-SSE intersects the monument from D-W-NW, and a second NE-SW field fence intersects the perimeter from NNW-N. The monument appears to have been completely levelled as it is only visible as a faint cropmark on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011.   Situated on a ridge now planted with forestry. Ringfort (WM011-066----) 165m to WSW. Ringfort (WM011-068----) 180m to SSW. A raised circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 20m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and slight external fosse. The bank is visible from NW-W & from E-SE and the fosse is only visible at NW. The interior rises towards the centre. Much of the monument has been levelled when it was planted with trees.   Situated on the W face of a hill in grassland with good views to the S. Ringfort (WM011-066----) 170m to NW. Ringfort (WM011-067----) 180m to NNE. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 26m NW-SE) enclosed by a very poorly preserved earthen bank. This bank is only visible from SSE-S, and levelled down to a scarp elsewhere. The interior has general slope from ENE-WSW and has vague suggestions of cultivation ridges running ENE-WSW also. A tree plantation encroaches on the E side of the site. The site appears to have been levelled since last site inspection as there are no surface remains visible of this monument on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011.   Description

  Situated on grassland with Lough Owel 200m to SW. Kilpatrick Well (WM011-074----) 280m to NE. A raised circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 35m E-W) defined by a scarp with no trace of a bank or external fosse. The interior slopes from ENE-WSW, and there are vague traces of cultivation ridges, also running ENE-WSW across the interior. In the E quadrant of the interior a small mound of earth and stones is visible, possibly a hut site (WM011-072001-). • WM011-073 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the S face of a hill in grassland, with good views overlooking Lough Owel 700m to S & W. Kilpatrick Well (WM011-074---) 165m to SW. A large sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 44m N-S) enclosed by two substantial earth and stone banks and an intervening wide deep fosse, with a slight external fosse. The inner bank has disturbance gaps at W & ESE and is almost completely levelled from S-SW. The external fosse is only visible at N. There is an entrance at NNE, represented by a gap (Wth 4m) in the inner bank, a causeway (Wth 6.6m; H 0.45m) across the fosse and a gap (Wth 4.8m) through the outer bank. Vague traces of cultivation ridges are visible running N-S across the interior. A stream running N-S which forms the townland boundary with Clanhugh Demesne intersects the site at SE. The remains of a field boundary running NE-SW intersects the site at W, and another field boundary running WNW-ESE intersects the perimeter from S-SW. • WM011-074 Ritual site - holy well
  Description

  Situated on wet grass-land. Lough Owel 500m to SW. Ringfort (WM011-072----) 240m to SW. Ringfort (WM011-073---) 165m to NE. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map to the S of a complex of buildings and annotated ‘Kilpatrick Well’. A pump house now stands at this location. No votive offerings visible around the spring and no indication now that it was venerated as a holy well.
