• WM002-006 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on ESE facing slope of low rise of ground with excellent views to N, E & SSE. Circular area (diam. 35m) defined by a low bank of earth and stones which has been steepened from SSE-S-SW where it forms part of a modern field boundary with wide steep flat bottomed fosse. No clear entrance feature visible. Large portions of the enclosing bank has been quarried away at NNW & ENE. The ground outside the bank has been disturbed by quarrying also on the W. Slight traces of old cultivation ridges aligned NNE-SSW running across the interior. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI. • WM002-007 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a low rise of reclaimed pasture-land with good views to E & S and moderate views to N & W. Ringfort (WM002-009----) 60m to S. Circular area (diam. 48m) defined by wide low earthen bank (int. H 1m; ext. H 2-2.5m) best preserved at N where if forms part of a modern field boundary and shallow traces of a fosse with external bank visible at NW only. The interior is uneven, rising gently towards the centre from inside the bank. There is a disturbance gap in the bank on the WSW and another on the NW. A gap on the SSE looks as if it is due to disturbance also and there is a modern road leading up to it from the outside. The fosse is almost completely filled up most of the way round.   Description

  Situated on a low natural rise of ground with good views to the E and more moderate views to the N, W and S. Ringfort (WM002-006----) 300m to NNW, second ringfort (WM002-009---) 240m to NNE. Circular area (diam. 43m N-S; 54m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank with external fosse now mainly filled in, causewayed entrance gap at SSE. Old cultivation ridges aligned WSW-ESE run across the interior of the monument. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI. • WM002-009 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the SSE side of a low natural rise of ground on reclaimed pasture-land. Ringfort (WM002-007----) 65m to N, ringfort (WM002-008----) 220m to SSW, ringfort (WM002-006----) 340m to W. Oval-shaped area (diam. 41m NW-SE; 26m NE-SW) defined by a low bank mainly reduced to a scarp and shallow external fosse with no entrance feature visible. • House, 1850–1870 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1860, with large two-storey return to the rear (east). Hipped natural slate roof with a pair of rendered chimneystacks to the centre and a projecting eaves course having cast-iron rainwater goods. Smooth rendered walls to ground floor, roughcast rendered above to first floor, separated by projecting string course. Square-headed window openings with cut stone sills, rendered reveals and six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows. Central segmental-headed doorcase with rendered surround/aedicule comprising Doric pilasters on square-plan supporting entablature over. Replacement door having replacement sidelights and a replacement fanlight over. Set back from road in own grounds with rendered wall to road frontage (west) having wrought-iron railings over. Gateway to west having rendered gate piers (on square-plan) having wrought-iron gate. Located just to the north of Lismacaffry crossroads, close to the border with Co. Longford.
