• WM023-065 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on slightly sloping land, in pasture. Monument described in 1983 as a curvilinear section of an earthen bank incorporated into a field fence which marks the townland boundary with Bryanbeg Lower probably represents the enclosing element of a possibl ringfort . The curving bank is visible from W-N-NE and there are faint traces of a levelled scarp from E-SE-S. The remains of a possible external fosse are visible. The faintest outline of a levelled bank is visible elsewhere on Digital Globe aerial photographs. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI. • WM023-074 Castle - unclassified
  Description

  Situated in open, flat, pasture. Levelled monument described in 1983 as no surface remains visible of Lissanode Castle. The Down Survey parish map of Drumraney depicts a tower house type castle in Lissanode standing close to the townland boundary with Ballycloghduff (NLI, MS 723-4). On this map the castle is depicted standing on lands belonging in 1640 to the Dillon family (ibid.). On 26th of January 1600 Captain Edmund Lyster wrote a letter to Christopher Nugent, Baron of Delvin in which he stated that 'O'Neill is burning of Magherocork all this day, and too[has] burned Sir Theobald's [Dillon] own town, and for the most part took all the preys of the country. he also took the castle[s] of Lysnoyd [Lissanode] and Bellanegloghduff [WM030-130----), and in those castle put in his own wards. Sir Theobald himself, his lady, and children, are gone to Athlone yesternight' (Cal. S.P. Ire, 432). Site of Lissanode Castle depicted standing on townland boundary 200m S of 18th century Lissanode House (NIAH Reg. No. 15402309; www.buildingsofireland.ie) on the 1838 ed. OS 6-inch map. A second note pencilled onto the OS map places the monument closer to Lissanode House, at the SW corner of the grounds. There are no upstanding remains of a castle at either of these locations.   Description

  Single-arched road bridge over Dungolman River, built c.1855. Constructed using coursed rusticated limestone rubble with dressed limestone voussoirs and rusticated coping over parapet. Located to the southwest of Ballymore.

• Lissanode House, house, 1750–1880 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached two-storey house on L-shaped plan, built c.1750 and extended and altered c.1880 (east), having projecting full-height single-bay canted projection to the angle of the ‘L’, containing entrance, and a two-storey canted-bay window to the southeast facing gable. Pitched natural slate roof with sprocketed eaves, projecting eaves course, cast-iron rainwater goods and three rendered chimneystacks with terracotta chimney pots over to northwest facing range. Roughcast rendered walls over smooth rendered plinth. Projecting moulded stone string courses and cornices with raised parapets over to projecting porch and to canted bay projection. Square-headed window openings with cut stone sills and early cast-iron casement windows. Segmental-headed door opening to central canted projection with cut stone surround comprising cut stone consoles supporting moulded cornice and cut stone pediment over. Timber panelled door. Set back from road in mature grounds to the southwest of Ballymore with extensive complex of outbuildings to the southwest, arranged around a central courtyard, and main entrance to the east.
