• WM008-087 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on top of a slight natural rise overlooked by a hillock to the NW. Earthwork (WM008-088----) 250m to SE. A raised sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 30m N-S; 25m E-W) enclosed by two earthen banks with intervening space (no fosse). The inner bank is poorly preserved, and has an entrance gap (Wth 2.8m) at NE. The outer bank is visible only from SW-NW. The interior rises slightly towards the centre. In the W quadrant a trench has been dug into the inner bank, and the sub-triangular platform outside it appears to be upcast spoil. See attached plan of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI. • WM008-088 Moated site
  Description

  Situated on top of a small prominent natural ridge in grassland with extensive views from N-E-S. Castle (WM008-091----) 320m to S. A rectangular shaped area (approx. dims. 19m E-W) enclosed by two earthen banks and intervening shallow fosse. The outer bank has been levelled by a roadway at E, and is only visible at S & W. A wide earthen bank curves from W-E at a distance of 12m from the enclosure on its N side, and a similar bank curves from W-SE at a distance of 24m from the enclosure on its S side. There are traces of a field system consisting of small rectangular enclosures 30m to SW of this bank. On a ridge 70m to the SW is an area of cultivation ridges running NW-SE and a possible rectangular house site (WM008-112----). • WM008-092 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on steep slope of rising ground in undulating countryside. Ringfort (WM008-087----) 490m to SW. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 15m N-S; 16m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and external fosse. The fosse is only visible at S & W. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running NE-SW across the interior. Much of the S side and interior of the monument have been quarried away. Monument has been levelled some time after 1973 report and is not visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. • WM008-112 House - indeterminate date
  Description

  Situated on top of a ridge 70m SW of a moated (WM008-088---) are the grass covered wall footings of a possible rectangular house site, visible as low earthen banks (approx. dims. 11m N-S x 5.5m E-W). Cultivations ridges running NW-SE appear to overlie the rectangular house site. There are traces of a field system consisting of small rectangular enclosures 30m E of site. The moated site, the building and the field system all appear to be related and may represent a clustered settlement (WM008-113----) of possible medieval date.   Description

  Situated 30m S of a moated site (WM008-088---) and 30m E of a building (WM008-112----) are traces of a field system consisting of small rectangular enclosures visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. The moated site, the building and the field system all appear to be related and may represent a clustered settlement of possible medieval date.
