• WM010-024 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight natural rise surrounded by gently undulating grassland. Ringfort (WM010-025----) 360m to NE. A slightly raised circular-shaped area (approx. diam 30m N-S) enclosed by two earthen banks and an intervening wide deep fosse. The inner bank is substantial, while the poorly preserved outer bank is only faintly visible from S-W-NW. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2.6m) and causeway (Wth 5.8m; H 0.6m) through the inner bank and fosse at SSE. The interior slopes slightly from S-N. • WM010-025 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on rushy grassland with good views of the surrounding countryside. An uneven sub-circular shaped raised area (approx. diam. 26m N-S; 29m E-W) defined by a scarp revetted with dry stone walling. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running N-S across the interior of the monument. An oval shaped depression in the NW quadrant may be the remains of a house site (WM010-025001-).   Description

  Description

  Situated on a slight rise in gently undulating grassland, with some wet, rushy land in the vicinity. Ringfort (WM010-025----) 160m to N. Ringfort (WM010-024----) 340m to W. A sub-circular shaped raised area (approx. diam. 28m N-S) enclosed by an earth & stone bank and a slight external fosse. The bank has several disturbance gaps, and has some areas of dry stone external facing. The fosse also appears to have been steepened in places. • WM010-027 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight rise with evidence of rock outcrop in gently undulating grassland. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 36m N-S; 33m E-W) enclosed by two earthen banks and an intervening fosse with an external fosse. The inner bank is fragmentary, best preserved from NNE-NE & S. The outer bank is visible though fragmentary from E-S-W, and elsewhere has been replaced by a field fence. There is a wide flat intervening space between the banks where they are visible. An L-shaped depression in the interior may represent a souterrain (WM010-027001-). Two lengths of a grass covered bank to the W of centre of the interior may represent a rectangular house site (WM010-027002-), while a second house site (WM010-027003-) is visible in the NE quadrant.   Description

  Situated on a slight natural rise in gently undulating slightly rushy grassland. Ringfort (WM010-029----) 200m to SSE. The Irishtown River which forms the boundary with Lakingstown is 120m to NE. A sub-circular shaped raised area (approx. diam. 19m N-S; 21m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved bank of earth and stone and a slight external fosse with entrance gap at ESE (Wth 3.2m). The bank is best preserved from SW-W-WNW and at NNW, but almost completely levelled elsewhere. The fosse is visible from SW-W-N. The interior slopes from N-S and contains vague traces of cultivation ridges. The faint outline of a circular house site (WM010-028001-) is visible in N quadrant. • WM017-007 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the W face of a small natural ridge in slightly undulating grassland, with extensive views in all directions. The field fence which forms the townland boundary with Paddinstown Upper lies 50m to S. Depicted as a circular shaped enclosure on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map (approx. diam 36m E-W), the N quadrant of the site has been reduced to a scarp in the past (post-1837). An earthen bank and slight external fosse are visible curving from NE-S-W.
