  Description

  Situated in well drained pasture-land with limited views of the surrounding fields. Ringfort (WM008-023----) 170m to NE. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 33m N-S; 36m E-W) enclosed by two earthen banks, intervening fosse and outer fosse. The inner bank has several disturbance gaps. The inner fosse has been filled in at SE & SW-W. The outer bank has been disturbed by field fences at W and S. The interior slopes gently from N-S, and has traces of cultivation ridges which run E-W.   Description

  Situated in pasture-land on the SE face of a natural rise, with wide views of the surrounding countryside, overlooked by a high hill to the W. Ringfort (WM008-022----) 170m to SW. Ringfort (WM008-024----) 195m to NE. A raised sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 26m N-S; 28m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and slight fosse. There is a possible entrance gap at E. The interior has traces of cultivation ridges in the N quadrant which run NW-SE. The remains of a rectangular hut site (WM008-023001-) consisting of low earthen banks and adjoining square enclosure are visible in the interior.   Description

  Situated in pasture-land on the SE face of a natural rise, with wide views of the surrounding countryside, overlooked by a high hill to the W. Ringfort (WM008-022----) 170m to SW. Ringfort (WM008-024----) 195m to NE. The remains of a rectangular shaped hut site (approx. diam. 4m E-W) with an entrance (approx. Wth 2.5m) at E is visible in the NW quadrant of ringfort (WM008-023---). A square shaped enclosure (approx. dims. 4m) adjoins this hut site at S, and a low earthen bank curves from the NE corner of the hut towards the perimeter.   Description

  Situated on SSE face of a prominent hill in grass-land, with excellent views from NE-E-S-SW. Ringfort (WM008-049----) 300m to SE. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 27m NW-SE; 25.5m NE-SW) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and external fosse. There is an entrance gap (Wth 1.7m) and causeway (Wth 5m; H 0.25m) across the fosse at SE. The interior slopes from N-S and contains shallow irregular hollows which appear to be natural features. • WM008-049 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on SSE face of a gentle slope in undulating and hilly grass-land, overlooked by hills to the NNW & ESE. Ringfort (WM008-048----) 300m to NW. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 44m N-S; 46m E-W) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a wide deep external fosse. The bank has several disturbance gaps. There is an entrance gap (Wth 3.8m) and causeway (Wth 3.2m; H 0.35m) across the fosse at E. The interior has a general slight slope from NNW-SSE and contains traces of cultivation ridges which run WNW-ESE. At the centre of the interior is a circular earthen mound (diam. 5.8m; H 0.4m) of unknown significance. This small mound could be the remains of a small barrow and is clearly visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. This earthwork is located in the same general area as 'Rinechan Castle' *WM008-076----) depicted on the 1657 Down Survey map of Fore barony and St. Feighin's parish (NLI MS 723-4).   Description

  Situated on a slight but elevated natural rise in grass-land, overlooked by higher ground to the E, SW & WNW. Ringfort (WM008-052----) 55m to ESE. Ringfort (WM008-051----) 190m to S. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 28m N-S; 32m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and slight external fosse. The bank is best preserved from N-ENE and is almost completely levelled elsewhere. A field boundary intersects the monument from N-NE. The external fosse is only visible from W-N.   Description

  Situated on the ENE face of a high ridge running WNW-ESE, with excellent views to the N & NE. Ringfort (WM008-052----) 200m to NE. Ringfort (WM008-050----) 190m to N. A field fence which is also the townland boundary with Collinstown skirts the E side of the monument. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 30.6m N-S; 33m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and deep-flat-bottomed external fosse. The bank is fragmentary, and the fosse has been filled up from N-E where it has been intersected by a post-1700 field fence. There is an entrance gap (Wth 1.4m) at ENE. The interior slopes from W-E.   Description

  Situated on a very slight natural rise on low lying marshy land. The surrounding hilly and undulating grass-land rises from the site in all directions. The townland boundary with Ballybeg is 60m to SW. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as ‘Rathniska’. Poorly preserved monument almost completely levelled. Remains consist of a sub-rectangular shaped area (approx. dims. 50m NE-SW; 48m E-W) enclosed by a wide external fosse (max. Wth 7.2m).   Description

  Situated on NW facing slope of rising ground on the highest point of a steep irregular ridge surrounded by undulating grass-land, with excellent views in all directions. Moated site (WM008-053----) 550m to NW. A raised sub-circular shaped area (approx. dims. 35m NW-SE; 29m NE-SW) enclosed by two earthen banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank has been quarried away at NW & SSW. The fosse & outer bank are visible from S-W and from NW-NNE. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running across the interior from NNE-SSW.   Description

  A road running through an area of bogland that is annotated 'Old Togher' on an 18th century estate map of Barbavilla Demesne (NLI, MS 21 F. 48 (009) ). This area of bogland is incorrectly annotated 'Knocknacoitia' on the OS 6-inch map. The hill 'Knocknacoitia' which overlooks Lough Lene is located 300m N of this area of bog.   Description

  Complex of two detached outbuildings, built c.1850, comprising a three-bay two-storey structure and a single-bay gable-fronted building. Outbuildings form a forecourt to the south of a detached two-storey house. Pitched natural slate roof, building to the east partially re-roofed with artificial slate. Constructed of coursed rubble limestone with dressed limestone quoins to the corners. Square-headed window openings with timber louvred vents to first floor of building to east with a square-headed doorcase and a segmental-headed carriage arch with dressed limestone voussoirs to the ground floor. Segmental-headed carriage arch with dressed limestone voussoirs to the east elevation of building to west with loop hole openings to the south elevation. Rubble limestone boundary wall to the road frontage (south) having cut limestone gate posts supporting wrought-iron bar gates. Located to the west of Collinstown.
