  Description

  Situated on top of a hillock known locally as the Stony Hill, with good views all around of undulating grassland. The field fence which forms the townland boundary with Williamstown lies 90m to E. A raised sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 30m NW-SE; 35m NE-SW) enclosed by two earth and stone banks with an intervening fosse. The inner bank is well preserved; the outer bank is very low. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running WNW-ESE across the interior. There is a possible entrance gap at W. At E the inner bank curves outwards to the E.   Description

  Situated on top of a hillock overlooked by higher ground to SW, with very good views in all other directions. The field fence which forms the townland boundary with Battstown lies 30m to N, and the field fence which forms the townland boundary with Williamstown is 30m to S. • WM013-085 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on NE facing slope of a natural hillock with stream immediately to NE. Well preserved bivallate ringfort consisting of a raised circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 28m N-S; 30m E-W) enclosed by two earthen banks with an intervening fosse. The inner bank is fragmentary and poorly preserved (Wth 4.8m; H 0.7m), the fosse is best preserved at SW (Wth 4.2m) and the outer bank is very low (Wth 2.7m; H 0.15m). There is an entrance gap (Wth 2.3m) and causeway across the fosse (Wth 3.1m; H 0.5m) at E. The interior rises slightly towards the centre. A linear earthen bank (Wth 1.9m; max. H 0.8m) runs across the NW quadrant towards the centre, where it intersects a rectangular hut site (WM013-085001-) and a possible second circular hut site (WM013-085002-).   Situated on NE facing slope of a natural hillock with stream immediately to NE. A rectangular house site (approx. dims. 4.7m N-S x 5.3m E-W) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth. 2.3m; H 0.3m) with an entrance gap (Wth 0.9m) at E is visible in the centre of a ringfort (WM013-085---).   Situated on NE facing slope e of a natural hillock with stream immediately to NE. A possible second sub-circular shape hut site (approx. diam. 4.9m NW-SE; 1.5m NE-SW) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth. 3.7m; H 0.35m) is visible in the SE quadrant of a ringfort (WM013-085---) adjoining the SE side of a house site (WM013-085001-). • WM013-093 Souterrain
  Description

  Situated on the NW face of a small hillock. Ringfort (WM013-085----) 280m to NE, with second ringfort (WM013-094---) 320m to E. Souterrain uncovered during widening of the Mullingar-Kells road in 1932. The works involved cutting into the face of a small hillock by the roadside which uncovered a passage belonging to a souterrain (Murray 1932, 224). The souterrain was entered through a short N-S passage, which in turn led to a passage running ENE-WSW which gave access to a rectangular corbelled chamber (dims. 3.8m N-S x 2.3m E-W; H 2.3m) at E end. This road marks the townland boundary with Balrath North and Crosserdree. The entrance to the souterrain was located immediately SE of a concrete road-side wall and was set into the NW face of a small hillock (approx. dims. 24.7m NE-SW x 18m NW-SE).   Situated on the NE face of a small prominent hillock. Souterrain (WM013-093----) 320m to W, ringfort (WM013-085----) 180m to NNW. Remains consist of a raised sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 24m N-S; 22m E-W) enclosed by a well preserved earth and stone bank with a wide external fosse that has been in-filled from ENE-SSW. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2.2m) at ESE. The interior slopes slightly to ESE. Traces of a large rectangular house (WM013-094001-) are visible to W of centre.   Description

  Situated on SW facing slope of a long ridge running NE-SW overlooking the S shoreline of Lough Reynella on the demesne lands of Reynella House located 410m to N. Present remains consist of a sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 24m N-S; 26m E-W) enclosed by a well preserved earth and stone bank (max. H 1m), with a wide external fosse. There is an entrance gap (Wth. 2.9m) and causeway (Wth. 2.75m; H 0.45m) across the fosse at NE. On the NE side of the ringfort there is a post-1700 ice house marked as a 'Cave' belonging to Reynella House. The site is now partially enclosed by a modern forestry plantation.   Description

  Oval-shaped earthwork or platform (approx. diam. 22m) depicted as an antiquity on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map and shown on subsequent editions of the OS maps as an oval-shaped platform. Ringfort (WM013-054----) lies 75m to ENE. Earthwork is visible today a roughly square-shaped earthwork on Digital Globe aerial imagery.
