• WM030-101 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a low rise, in low-lying pasture. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly oval-shaped earthwork. Bivallate ringfort described in 1979 as a roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 30m) enclosed by an inner bank, an intervening fosse and an outer bank. The low bank is best preserved at S. There is a shallow fosse and traces of a low outer bank. The perimeter has been removed at W and N. There are no indications of an entrance. The interior has a gentle E-facing slope and no features are discernible. Monument is visible today as a tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography.   Description

  Detached four-bay single-storey thatched house, built c.1820, with direct-entry plan. Pitched scalloped oaten straw thatched roof with a low rendered chimneystack to north gable and a low brick chimneystack to centre. Whitewashed roughcast rendered walls over a smooth rendered base. Square-headed window openings with painted stone sills, rendered reveals and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed door with timber door offset to the north side of centre. Set back at a right angle from the road with forecourt to front (east) and rendered gate piers to north. Located to the west of Moate.
