• WM007-042 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a steep ridge in pasture-land. Ringfort (WM007-041----) 220m to NE. Ringfort (WM007-069----) 90m to SE. An oval shaped raised area (approx. diam. 27m N-S; 30m E-W) enclosed by an earth and stone bank from NW-N-SE, and a shallow fosse at NW-N-E-SE. Possible entrance gap at NE. The interior rises gently towards the centre. The monument has been planted with trees. See attached section of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI. • WM007-069 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a low rise in fairly well drained pasture-land, with wide views of the surrounding countryside. Ringfort (WM007-042----) 90m to NW. A slightly raised sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 40m N-S; 36m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank from N-W-SW, a shallow fosse at E and a poorly preserved outer bank at NE. The interior slopes gently from W-E, and has traces of cultivation ridges which run E-W. A post-1837 field boundary running WSW-ESE intersects the SW side of the monument, and a field boundary, part of an old lane way intersects the SE side of the site.   Description

  Situated on a low ridge in pasture-land, with very wide views to the N and restricted views in other directions. Ringfort (WM007-042----) 210m to NNW. Ringfort (WM007-042---) 140m to NNE. Ringfort (WM007-068---) 160m to SW. A slightly raised circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 26m NE-SW) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank, almost completely levelled from S-W, a shallow fosse at E & SW, and a poorly preserved outer counterscarp bank at ENE. There is an entrance gap at E. The interior slopes from SW-NE. A field fence running NE-SW, depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map intersects the monument at S.
