- WM007-066 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on the N face of a high hill with wide views from W-N-E. Ringfort (WM007-067---) 250m to SW. A sub-circular-shaped area enclosed by a well preserved earth and stone bank (H 1m), a wide fosse and a poorly preserved outer bank. There is an entrance gap at N. Description
Annotated as ‘fort’ on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map and depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as an oval-shaped enclosure or ringfort. Ringfort (WM007-066---) 250m to NE. Unable tin inspect monument as it was located inside a tree plantation. The outline of the monument is visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. Description
Situated in pasture-land on a small natural terrace on the NE face of a high ridge running NW-SE. Extensive views to the N towards Lough Derravaragh. Ringfort (WM007-070---) 160m to NE. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 20m N-S; 22m E-W) enclosed by a very poorly preserved earthen bank and slight outer fosse.
