• WM032-073 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Described in 1977 as a ringfort situated on a rise in undulating pasture land with fairly good views in all directions. The field around the ringfort is covered with old cultivation ridges. Site consists of a roughly circular area defined by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank and a shallow external fosse. There are traces of a low outer bank possibly incorporated into later field banks at NW and N. The fosse is best preserved from SW-W and it is very narrow from NW-N. The fosse has been filled in from E-SE where the external bank on longer survives. The inner bank is best preserved at SE, elsewhere only the faint outline survives. Original causewayed entrance gap with stone facing at terminals of bank located at SE. The interior is uneven and slopes from NW to SE, with rock outcrop protruding above surface of interior. A short section of a low earth and stone bank runs for a length of c.14m NW-SE to the N of centre of the interior. Just N of this bank there is an entrance into a souterrain (WM032-073001-) with dry-stone walls and a lintelled passage leading NNW with indication of a second passage running off it to the W. Just outside the ringfort are the remains of a field system that appears to be later than the monument although part of this field system incorporates the outer bank of the ringfort.   Description

  Described in 1977 as a ringfort (WM032-073----) situated on a rise in undulating pasture land with fairly good views in all directions. The field around the ringfort is covered with old cultivation ridges. Site consists of a roughly circular area defined by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank and a shallow external fosse. Just N of the enclosing bank there is an entrance into a souterrain (WM032-073001-) with dry-stone walls and a lintelled passage leading NNW with indication of a second passage running off it to the W. There is a shallow rectangular depression just W of the souterrain entrance which may be due to collapse of part of the souterrain. Just outside the ringfort are the remains of a field system that appears to be later than the monument although part of this field system incorporates the outer bank of the ringfort.   Description

  Described in 1977 as a ringfort situated on a rise in good pasture land. The ringfort consists of a small roughly circular area (diam. 28m N-S; 29.5m E-W) defined by a low bank of earth and stone only visible at E with no evidence of an external fosse. There are slight remains of an earth and stone bank running S from the SE edge of the monument which may be the remains of an old field bank. No entrance feature visible. There is a small U-shaped setting of stones set into a low earthen bank in the SSW quadrant of the interior close to the perimeter of the monument.
