  Description

  Marked as a rectangular embanked or moated enclosure (ext. dims. c. c. 40m N-S; 25-35m E-W)on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and as a subcircular hachured feature (ext. dims. c. 50m N-S; c. 40m E-W) on the 1925 ed. and situated on a slight rise in a fairly level landscape. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 30m) defined by a slight scarp and an external fosse visible as lusher vegetation (Wth 2.5-4m).   Marked on the 1839 and 1925 eds of the OS 6-inch map and described in italic lettering on both as Tobernagappul – the horses’ well – and situated on a fairly level landscape.   Marked as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and located on a steep E-facing slope down to the N-S Tomgarrow stream which is c. 60m distant. It is not visible at ground level in pasture. Aerial photograph (GB89.AO.22) shows the cropmark of an incomplete curvilinear enclosure (diam. c. 30m) defined by a fosse and with an entrance facing SE. Rath (WX035-043001-) is attached to the N.   Located on a steep E-facing slope down to the N-S Tomgarrow stream which is c. 60m distant.   Description

  Marked as an oval embanked enclosure (ext. dims. c. 50m N-S; c. 35m E-W) on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6 inch map, and situated towards the top of the SW-facing slope of a NE-SW ridge. It is not visible at ground level but a faint circular cropmark (diam. c. 35m) is visible on aerial photographs (MM (50) 4-6; ASIAP, WX 106, 22-6), and digital aerial photographs (WX035-044_1 to _4) taken in 2006.   Description

  Located in the valley of the N-S Tomgarrow stream, which loops around the monument NE-SE-SW c. 30-100m distant. This is a rectangular area (dims. 46m NE-SW; 45m NW-SE) in mixed woodland defined by slight earthen banks (int. H 0.2m) and external moats (Wth of top 8.7-9.5m; Wth of base 3.5-4.5m; ext. D 1-1.8m) on each side except the NW where there is field bank and outer silted drain. There are external banks at the SE and SW sides (Wth 6 8m; ext. H 0.6 1.5m), perhaps augmented with spoil. There are three rectangular house sites (dims. c. 9m x 4 5m) forming three sides of a square in the interior open to the NW. The houses are defined by stone spreads (Wth c. 1.5m; H c. 0.4-0.6m). The circular moated site (WX035-046----) is c. 130m to the S on the other side of the stream.   Marked as a graveyard on the 1839 and 1925 eds of the OS 6 inch maps, and situated on the SE-facing slope of a broad hill. This is a rectangular area (int. dims. 34m NW-SE; 31m NE-SW) defined by earthen banks. There is a mortuary enclosure (int. dims 6.6m E-W; 3.6m N-S) defined by masonry walls (H 1.2-1.4m) at the centre but outside this feature at SW are two dressed granite stones from a medieval doorway. One has a chamfer and a rebate for a doorway and the other is from a pointed arch and has a chamfer. The graveyard is within an ecclesiastical enclosure (diam. c. 80m) which is visible as a cropmark on digital aerial photographs (WX035-077_1 to 8) taken in 2006. The cropmark of a circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) can be seen outside the ecclesiastical enclosure at W on some of the aerial photographs (WX035-077_7, _8) taken in 2006.
