  Description

  Situated on the coast at Polshone Head with the sea immedately adjacent NW-SE and a ravine on the S side. This grass-covered area is defended by two fosses. The inner enclosure is subcircular or D-shaped (dims. 32m E-W; 29m N-S) defined by scarps (H 1.6-2m) at N and S and destroyed by sea erosion at E, but a curving bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.2m) with an external fosse (Wth of top 8m; Wth of base 3m; D 1.2m) and counterscarp bank (Wth c. 4m; ext. H 0.3m) survive S-NW. The outer enclosure to the W is triangular (dims. 28m E-W; 23m N-S at E) with the apex at W whre it is defined by a fosse across the promontory (Wth of top 6m; D 2m). The inner enclosure may have been a rath imposed on earlier defences. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).   Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey farmhouse, extant 1885, on a T-shaped plan with single-bay (single-bay deep) full-height central return (west). Occupied, 1911. Renovated, ----. Replacement hipped slate roof on a T-shaped plan centred on hipped slate roof (west) with lichen-covered clay ridge tiles, paired red brick Running bond central chimney stacks having stepped capping, and uPVC rainwater goods on box eaves. Part creeper- or ivy-covered replacement gritdashed roughcast walls bellcast over rendered plinth. Segmental-headed central door opening with cut-granite step threshold, timber mullions supporting timber transom, and concealed dressings framing timber panelled double doors having sidelights on panelled risers below fanlight. Square-headed window openings with cut-granite sills, and concealed dressings framing replacement uPVC casement windows. Set back from road in landscaped grounds with cut-granite monolithic piers to perimeter supporting flat iron double gates.

  Description

  Detached four-bay two-storey farmhouse, extant 1885, on a rectangular plan. Occupied, 1911. Hipped slate roof with clay ridge tiles, and remains of cast-iron rainwater goods on slate or stone flagged eaves retaining cast-iron downpipes. Part creeper- or ivy-covered coursed rubble stone walls originally lime rendered or roughcast with red brick flush quoins to corners. Hipped or lugged square-headed off-central door opening in shallow camber-headed recess with terracotta tiled threshold, timber mullions, and red brick block-and-start surround framing glazed timber boarded door having sidelights. Square-headed window openings in shallow camber-headed recesses with cut-granite sills, and red brick block-and-start surrounds framing six-over-six timber sash windows. Set back from road in own grounds with rendered, ruled and lined piers to perimeter having moss-covered pyramidal capping supporting arrow head-detailed wrought iron gate.
