  Described in Grogan and Kilfeather (1997, 81, no. 495) as 'Situated on a gentle NE-facing slope. Cropmark of a solid circular area (diam. c. 15m) situated immediately to the W of a possible enclosure (WI013-006002-). Visible on aerial photograph (CUCAP, BGE 83). Not visible at ground level.' Subsequent archaeological excavation (Licence No. 04E0744) revealed a large burnt mound which sealed 11 troughs and a number of pits, post-holes and gullies. A charcoal sample from one of the troughs produced a radiocarbon date of 1710-1690 cal. BC. A palisade trench (WI013-006002-) was located to the S and E and this priduced a date of 1400-1120 cal. BC.   The remains of a linear ditch (L 47m E-W), a structure defined by post-holes, a cremation pit, a number of animal burials and a curvilinear feature (L 10m) were excavated here in 2003 prior to the construction of the dual carriageway from the R671 to Greystones (Excavation Licence 03E0018 (Site A). • WI013-076 Habitation site
  Description

  Two Bronze Age structures were excavated here in 2003, prior to the construction of the dual carriageway from the R671 to Greystones (Excavation Licence 03E0146 (Site D)). 'Structure I' (diam. 10m) was defined by a double ring of post-holes some of which contained cremation deposits and sherds of Bronze Age pottery. 'Structure II' (diam. 10m) was defined by a single row of post-holes and its northern limit was truncated by a series of pits and post-holes. Three linear ditches were located at the eastern extent of the site forming a probable enclosure with an east-facing entrance. A large number of associated pits, post-holes, hearths and a possible metalled surface were also excavated and yielded a fragment of bronze, Early Neolithic and Bronze Age pottery and six saddle querns.   A ring-ditch (WI013-077----), a large cremation pit (WI013-113----) and two small structures (WI013-114----and WI013-115----) were excavated here in 2003, prior to the construction of the dual carriageway from the R671 to Greystones (Excavation Licence 03E0147 (Site F)). The ring-ditch (Wth 1.4m; av. D 0.6m) enclosed a circular area (diams. 5.6m N-S; 5.39m E-W). Nine flints were found in the ditch. The cremation pit was located 3.07m to the north-east of the ring-ditch and contained deposits of cremated bone, charcoal and large stones. A small circular structure (diam. 3m N-S; 2.8m E-W), 10m to the west of the ring-ditch, was defined by a narrow, circular slot-trench with two post-holes defining an entrance (Wth 0.9m). There was also a centrally placed post-hole and the slot-trench was ringed with an outer circle of post-holes in which several fragments of prehistoric pottery were found. A second, small structure, located 11m north of the former, was formed by a series of post-holes and stake-holes which defined a circular depression (diam. 2.76m; D 0.14m).   Description

  Two trenches were excavated here in 2003 (Excavation Licence 03E1028 (Site GC4)) as part of construction work associated with Charlsland Residential Development. 'Trench A' revealed a hearth (L 0.85m N-S; Wth 0.54m) and an isolated post-hole (4m away) which contained fragments of flint debitage. 'Trench B' lay 40m to the south and revealed a number of post-holes, pits, shallow burnt spreads and 'a narrow linear feature'.   Description

  A fulacht fia was excavated here in 2003 (Excavation Licence 03E0592 (Site CA1)). The burnt mound (L 14m E-W; Wth 11.5m; D 0.2m) sealed four troughs and a number of post-holes and stake-holes were found associated with the troughs. One of the troughs (D c. 1m) had a wattle lining which predated an internal lining of roundwoods on the E and W sides, and timber plank flooring. Set in the base of this trough was a set of six prehistoric pipes, made of yew and thought to be part of a musical instrument. A radiocarbon date of between 2120 and 2085 BC was obtained from a peg used in the construction of the trough lining.   A ring-ditch (WI013-077----), a large cremation pit (WI013-113----) and two small structures (WI013-114----and WI013-115----) were excavated here in 2003, prior to the construction of the dual carriageway from the R671 to Greystones (Excavation Licence 03E0147 (Site F)). The ring-ditch (Wth 1.4m; av. D 0.6m) enclosed a circular area (diams. 5.6m N-S; 5.39m E-W). Nine flints were found in the ditch. The cremation pit was located 3.07m to the north-east of the ring-ditch and contained deposits of cremated bone, charcoal and large stones. A small circular structure (diam. 3m N-S; 2.8m E-W), 10m to the west of the ring-ditch, was defined by a narrow, circular slot-trench with two post-holes defining an entrance (Wth 0.9m). There was also a centrally placed post-hole and the slot-trench was ringed with an outer circle of post-holes in which several fragments of prehistoric pottery were found. A second, small structure, located 11m north of the former, was formed by a series of post-holes and stake-holes which defined a circular depression (diam. 2.76m; D 0.14m).
