Description
Situated on a gentle N-facing slope. Circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) hachured on the 1910 OS 6-inch map but not visible at ground level The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Description
A rectangular burial ground (dims. 20m x 15m) defined by iron railings containing three 19th-century headstones. According to the OS Name Book (Ballynure parish, no. 116, 4) there is a tombstone here, that of the late James Wall Esqre. of Knockrigg, dated 1791. Description
Situated on a gentle NE-facing slope. Circular area (diam. 30.5m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.3m) and an external fosse (Wth 4.6m; max. D 1.5m), now partly levelled. No indication of an entrance or internal features. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Description
Detached four-bay single-storey former railway worker's house, built c.1865. The house is constructed in rubble granite with brick dressings and some granite quoins. To the rear there is a large late 20th century extension and a canted bay has been added to the south gable. The window openings are flat-headed with mainly two over two timber sash frames. The pitched roof is finished with natural slate with cast-iron rainwater goods; eaves are slightly overhanging and bargeboards are plain. Chimneystacks are brick with slightly corbelled caps and clay pots. The house faces the road and is slightly set back behind a low fieldstone wall with a timber gate.
- Water pump, 1870–1890 · Regional interest
Description
Freestanding water pump, erected c.1880. The cast-iron pump has a cow tail handle and is set on a slightly raised platform; this has granite kerbs and octagonal granite pillars with wrought-iron rails. The centre of the platform has been renewed in concrete with chevron drainage channels and a cast-iron drain. It is prominently sited at the junction of a road.
