  Description

  Situated just S of the crest of the saddle between Lugnagun and Sorrel Hill. A circular cairn (diam. c. 9.5m) surrounded by a kerb of small boulders. The chamber is rectangular (dims. 1.2m x 0.75m; H 0.6m) and partly covered by a roofstone (dims. 1.8m x 1m; T 0.2m), with a possible recess opening off it. The remains of a short passage lead from the kerb to the chamber from the WSW side.   Description

  Oval enclosure (37.80m NW-SE) on a low natural rise in a marshy area. It was excavated in 1939 prior to the construction of the Blessington Reservoir under which it now stands. The site was defined by an earthen bank (average W. 6m, H. 0.60-0.75m) without evidence for an entrance or an external ditch. Evidence for a circular house/hut with wattle walls came from the centre of the site and the finds suggest an early medieval date. • WI010-010 Ritual site - holy well
  Description

  Situated c. 600m W of Templeboodin Church (WI010-011001-) and now covered by Blessington Reservoir. Omurethi (1906, 203) mentions that the water was used for drinking and for rubbing on sore limbs, and that small stones near the well were rubbed on teeth as cures for toothaches. Water taken from the well for cooking would not boil. The water from the well is pumped to a point above the reservoir. According to Lynch (1994, 643-4) there is a holy well known as ‘St Boden’s Well’ in the townland of Lackan that is mentioned in the 1930s Irish Folklore Commission, Schools Manuscript Collection (IFC S 913: 131/138/175-8; IFC S 914: 331/538; IFC S 915: 185-193; IFC S 917: 24/29; IFC 468: 64-7; IFC 972: 543). The folklore manuscripts recorded that ‘this well was frequented by people seeking cures and offerings were left by supplicants. There was a lone whitethorn bush near the well. Prohibition against using the water for household purposes. Two fish lived in the well and it was said that the fish would escape and the well would lose its power under Poulaphouca Lake’ (Lynch 1994, 643-4).   Description

  In the S quadrant of Templeboodin graveyard (WI010-011003-). A granite slab (L 1.45m; Wth 0.58m) tapering towards the W end (Wth 0.36m) which contains a single latin cross in low relief (L 0.54m; Wth 0.47m) formed by a raised band (Wth 0.1m; H 0.003m). At the E end is a Greek cross (34 x 34cm) also in low relief formed by a raised band (Wth 0.09m: H 0.002m).
