In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Named as Kilmolappoge Church and Holy Well on 1839 'OS 6-inch' map, probably a mapping error, since this name is given to another site (CW016-074----) on the 1938-9 ed. Present remains consist of irregular but possibly originally circular platform (47.7m E-W, 54m NNE-SSW) enclosed by fosse with external bank, best preserved at W (D of fosse 1m below ext. bank; Wth 6m; ext. H of bank 1.3m; Wth c. 7m). Causeway at NNW. Foundations of rectangular granite structure (dims. c 11m x 5m) off-centre of enclosure, orientated ESE-WNW with possible entrance at W.

  When inspected in 1987 by ASI, remains consisted of irregular but possibly originally circular platform (47.7m E-W, 54m NNE-SSW) enclosed by fosse with external bank, best preserved at W (D of fosse 1m below ext. bank; Wth 6m; ext. H of bank 1.3m; Wth c. 7m). Causeway at NNW. Foundations of rectangular granite structure (dims. c 11m x 5m) off-centre of enclosure, orientated ESE-WNW with possible entrance at W may be remains of a church (CW016-069001-).   Description

  The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Approximately rectangular area defined by low banks with few protruding stones (c. 19m E-W, c. 10.5m N-S). Human bones uncovered in quarry to N of structure and reburied nearby. Name suggests possibly early foundation.

• CW016-075 Megalithic structure
  Description

  This is the S of the two features first marked 'Dolmen' on the 1905 edition of the OS 6-inch map. It consists of a 'massive granite slab (2.95m N-S x 3.60m E-W) now split in two, supported at N by large upright slab (L 2.10m x H 1.00 - 1.30m). S end of 'capstone' rests on rocky ground.' (Brindley and Kilfeather 1993, 2, no. 4). The remains cannot on present evidence be accepted as those of a megalithic tomb.   The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Circular enclosure with annexe. Aerial photographs (CUCAP BDH 91-92, BDO 58) show broad, well-marked cropmark of fosse (est max. diam. c. 50m) with fainter and much narrower, external but concentric fosse (est max. diam. c. 70m), enclosing kidney-shaped annexe at E (est max. diam. if arc complete c 45m). No evidence for causeway. No visible surface traces. 'Circular ring of stones' and 'wall' reported as having been bulldozed c 20 years ago. Possibly a ringfort with annexe.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Visible on aerial photograph (CUCAP BGH 31) as cropmark of fosse enclosing circular area (est max. diam. c. 35m). Ring-ditch or ring-barrow. Faint cropmark of second site (CW016-103----) to SW. No visible surface traces. O'Donovan (OSL 1839, 93) mentions: 'I could find no remarkable moat or fort in Donore, from which the name might be said to have been taken. Several raheens in it were levelled.' This reference probably includes some of the Donore sites.
