  Marked 'Fort' and depicted on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. as a roughly circular enclosure divided into unequal portions by a roadway aligned NE-SW. On the 1913 OS ed. only the larger portion of the site, WNW of the roadway is depicted. This has since been levelled. The smaller area ESE of the roadway is now occupied by modern farm buildings. Situated on the SW shoulder of a high drumlin ridge. Not visible at ground level.   Description

  Extant remains comprise the ruins of portion of a four-storey house of late 18th or early 19th-century date, incorporating 17th-century stonework in NE angle, especially in the lower courses. This may have been the site of a castle built by Captain Gerald Fleming in 1607 and lost during the Williamite wars. Depicted on the Down Survey (1656-8) map as a large castle with two entrance gates at Cabragh (25) accompanied by a small building, perhaps a mill, on the bank of the E-W River Lagan c. 200m to the N.   Description

  Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 34m) enclosed by two substantial earthen banks with intermediate wide fosse. A modern drain which runs outside the outer bank from E-SE-S may have replaced an earlier fosse. Intermediate fosse has been infilled and is now utilised as a laneway. Break in inner bank at SE may represent original entrance. The ruins of a small circular building (int. diam. c. 2m), enclosed by a stone wall (max. H c. 2m), with a collapsed doorway at S, lies at the centre of the interior. This was probably a late-18th or early 19th-century folly.   Description

  Gate screen of cast-iron in Gothic Revival style, built c.1880, at entrance to demesne of Cabra Castle. Comprising elaborate railings punctuated with three pairs of open work piers, at double gates, at ends of flanking straight sectons and as terminating piers at ends of long curving screen. Square-profile uprights with decorated bands at top and bottom between horizontal rails having quatrefoil elaboration, cusped ogee-headed detail between uprights at top and bottom. Finials on open saw-tooth course over top rail. Square-profile cast-iron piers with gablets having trefoil faces surmounted by finials and crocketed pinnacles with finial apex.

• Cabra Castle, gate lodge, 1855–1860 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached T-plan three-bay single-storey gate lodge, built 1857, with gabled porch facing entrance drive, canted bay window to west gable part of three-bay side elevation to road with northernmost bay added c.1880. Recent lean-to side entrance and three-bay dormered extension to north-east. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles and sandstone ashlar chimneystacks to centre of both ridges, barge stone resting on corbeled kneelers over decorative timber fascia and cast-iron rainwater goods. Punch-dressed squared and snecked random sandstone masonry with ashlar corner stones and plinth course, corner stones to centre of west wall indicating extent of original lodge. Date shield to apex of front gable reading ‘1837’, blind slit openings in ashlar surrounds to apex of east and west gables. Square-headed windows with hood mouldings set in bevelled stone mullioned surrounds, as bipartite windows to entrance and west elevations. Quadripartite canted bay window to west gable. Tripartite window to east gable. Replacement timber windows. Pointed arch door with fixed overlight and recent timber door inside porch with fixed timber side lights in stone surrounds. Coursed-squared sandstone rubble boundary wall.

  Description

  Single-arch rubble stone estate road bridge, built 1801, spanning tributary river to Lough Corawaddy. Coursed-random rubble stone spandrels and parapet with recent Scotch coping and ashlar name plaque reading ‘Sarah Bridge 1801’, all with recent strap pointing. Segmental arch with regular V-jointed ashlar voussoirs and cement-grouted rubble-stone soffit. Random rubble abutments with recent concrete repairs. Sweeping random rubble stone wing walls. Gravel-surfaced deck.
