Description
Raised oval area (int. dims. 50m N-S; c. 43.5m E-W) enclosed by a wide, low earthen bank (Wth 7.7m) and slight remains of a fosse (Wth 3.5m; D 0.3m). Break in bank with traces of possible accompanying causeway at NNW represents original entrance. From N-E-ESE the perimeter of the site has been destroyed as a result of the construction of a now disused railway line. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). Description
Situated at the S end of a low N-S ridge. A circular grass-covered feature (ext. diam. c. 50m) that is probably defined by a wide and low earthen bank that is incorporated into a field bank and townland boundary with Tullylough SW-NW is visible only on Google Earth (07/02/2019) but the enclosure and its bank can be confirmed from LiDAR coverage. It is traversed by a relict E-W field bank towards the perimeter at S, and it was first reported by Jean Charles Caillére. Description
Single-arch stone road bridge, built c.1800, having slightly humped deck over Cavan River. Roughly squared blocks to abutments supporting segmental arch with rubble stone barrel faced having dressed cut-stone arch ring of equal voussoirs. Squared rubble stone spandrels and parapet walls having heavily rusticated limestone coping blocks.
