  Description

  Raised circular area (int. diam. 45m) enclosed by two very substantial earthen banks with a deep intermediate fosse. Original entrance at ESE represented by corresponding breaks in the banks with accompanying causeway. Eight years ago during the course of tree planting, the landowner discovered a wooden post, roughly 1m high, inside the inner bank, which he speculated was probably part of a palisade. (CUCAP, ALJ 83/85). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).   Description

  Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. and known in the locality as same (local information). Raised circular area (int. diam. 24m). The site is divided into two unequal segments by a laneway running ENE-WSW. The larger SE segment survives as a very low earthen mound. At NW the perimeter has been incorporated into the field boundary. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).   Description

  Detached four-bay single-storey with dormer attic lobby-entry thatched vernacular house, built c.1860, with unfenestrated rear elevation, and later flat-roofed porch to front. Pitched thatch roof of wheaten straw with plain bobbin ridge and gable ends, red brick chimneystack. Slight batter to gables indicating mud wall construction. Replacement smooth render with raised plinth to front elevation. Lime-washed random rubble walls to rear elevation. Square-headed window openings with painted sills and uPVC replacement windows. Square-headed door opening to side of entrance porch having uPVC replacement door approached by concrete ramp. Opens directly to famyard with rubble stone outbuilding set at right angle to front having corrugated-iron roof. Set back from road with square-profile rendered piers and double-leaf gates with wheel motif.
